We am supposed to be going away next weekend for our first trip in our brand new van,I've said that I'm a bit reluctant to tow it in the snow and have had a ear bashing,I've been up the m6 today ,I'm a lorry driver,there was a van on its side car hanging of the tow hitch,further along a truck in the central reservation,I just think its not worth the risk and wondered if anyone else is gonna tow next w/end if it's still windy/snowy...

We're booked (& paid) to go to Northam Farm, at Brean. Had we not paid I would have thought twice. Unless it's stupidly bad we will give it a go. It's a huge flat site, not far off the M5 so should be ok. Who knows...this time next week it might be Spring...!!!

Yes, I am going. I am not trying to encourage you to do something you aren't comfortable with , but you work as a lorry driver. What would you do if your boss said go to this campsite?
You would go. I've never been offered a choice.

If you do decide to go, remember snow is much easier than ice. Stick to main roads even if it is longer.

We am also going to brean but the cc site,I know this sounds stupid but if I do crunch the truck whilst being gutted it wouldnt be 20 grand of my own money

I'm going to make a final decision on Thursday - not risking it in the snow!!!

However, we haven't seen ANY snow yet this is year :-)

We got cancelled this weekend. (rally cancelled)

But next weekend, we intend to go. The site copes well with the weather and we have a hall.

Seeing a caravan on its side doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the weather. I've seen a few overturned caravans when it isn't snowing so by the same logic I might argue that it's safer to tow in the snow as I have never seen a caravan overturn in the snow but I have seen it in the rain and sunshine.

Never again,we once caravanned in the snow on the way back from Keswick.the motorway was reduced to one lane in the centre on both sides and a speed of 20-25 mph all the way back.

Sorry to hear about the overturned van yesterday. I drove up the M6 yesterday afternoon in a high sided HGV, thankfully loaded, and between lancaster and Penrith the wind was horrendous. I did meet a caravan at Penrith heading south and thought to myself, they're not going to get far. Hope they're all ok.

We won't be towing in the snow. We are off to central wales next weekend and down some country lanes, caravan + a rear wheel drive BMW recipe for disaster!! I just hope its all gone by Thursday or we will be stuck at home instead!

I have always found rear wheel drive to be better for towing. BMW not great though.

We are due to pick our new van up on Thursday, and don't think towing for the first time in snow is a good idea. Trouble is, if we don't get the van onThursday we will have to wait a month to tie in with the the dealers and our shift pattern. We are booked into a local site so we are thinking of getting the van to the site and if the weather hasn't improved by Monday we will leave it there and go home alone, going back for the van as soonas the weather clears.

We too had a rally cancelled on us this weekend due to the severe weather warning ,We wouldn't go out in conditions like this weekend has been even with our 4 wheel drive,just hope it is better for next weekend. 4 nights booked at Aston Cantlow ground conditions permitting

We Also won't be going if it doesn't improve. We've had a huge amount of snowfall and our caravan is stored on a farm which is inaccessible at the moment. The winds are dangerous and I don't think its worth it, plus, where would you stand on your insurance if you tow when there are severe weather warnings?
I have contacted haven today who state that holidays can be transferred over at no extra cost even on the last minute so we are seeing what happens?

We won't go if it doesn't improve, but seeing as it's motorway nearly all the way to our chosen site, the roads should be ok. We are more concerned about the site taps.
