Currently we have a twin dinnet both of which make up into double bedds but the rear dinnet is shorter. Hubby and I are lazy and like to leave the bed made up and doing this with front bed means we lose living space (it is just hubby and I but also two cats on hols!)
We have talked on changing our van for a fixed bed and hubby said u can get twin dinnets without the shorter bed. Another reason for fixed bed is I have a bad back but if we got a matterase made that would solve that issue.
We are now thinking of seeing if the place that services our van can make the alterations and change the rear dinnet to a perm bed. Our van is an 1993 or eldis cyclon gt. I know if we make the changes we wont increase the value when it comes to selling/trading it in but would it make it more difficult to sell/trade.
Money is behind some of these thoughts as we could really do with repacing our tow car as well.
We turned the end dinnette into a fixed bed. Initially we used the table to fit the gap between the two bench seats but instead of using the caravan seat cushions we bought a 4foot memory foam mattress to fit this area. Some end dinnette areas are wider than this so best to check.
After a while we decided as we would be keeping the caravan for some time, to make it a 'fixed bed' a permanant fixture and bought a large piece of plywood and totally removed the seating, refixed the frame and made a lift up top out of the plywood. This meant we could easly access the underneath of the bed. Best thing we did, bed made up all the time, comfy memory foam mattress and plenty of storage underneath.
Cool, sounds good, we were thinking it's prob a common thing to do, plus we are starting to use it all year round and means we will have more indoor living space xx
We made our twin dinnette into a fixed bed too. It had a bunk above, so removed that, then a full plywood sheet to form the base. Our bed was 3ft 11" wide, so we bought a 4ft mattress and it just fits in, although the bed is longer than the mattress by about 3 inches.
It's great - we have a door over that end so can just slide it shut and we're left with a lovely living area.

Thanks Gaile ours too has a bunk at the rear dinnet end. Hubby and I thinking it is def the better way forward and looking forward to contacting the people who service it to do some quotes, espec as hubby has drawn up an essential list and wish list of what to do to van!
Andy we were more worried on if it would make it difficult to resell privatley than trade in.
