Hello
We are new to caravanning. We have just bought a tourer, a used Coachman Pastiche 520/4, however, it is going on a seasonal pitch as my husband has a company car and they won't allow him to tow anything. Salop caravans are delivering it to the site next week. I have a few questions for which I would be very grateful for advice:
1. We have had to buy a waste container - how does this fix to the toilet, and will we need anything else for it?
2. We have also bought a water container, again, how does this fix to the water system and do we need anything else?
3. Any recommendations for insurance companies? Which is the best wheel lock and hitchlock to get?
We are complete novices with tourers, hence the questions and I will be on my own the first time I go to the site to use it so I want to be as prepared as possible. The site owners are very kindly taking delivery for us as we can't be there at that time.
Any other advice will be very much appreciated!
1. Do you mean this kind of waste container, or possibly own of the wheeled versions? If so, it's intended for "grey" water ie from the sink or shower; toilet will have its own removable container or "cassette".
2. Fresh water is usually drawn from an Aquaroll (or similar) by the 'van's pump and hose.
3. Check with the companies you're considering - they may recommend or insist on a particular product or brand.

Hello Hacksaw Bob
No, it is bigger than that and a different shape. Salop caravan sales man said we would need one. Usually £47 but he did it for £30 as we had bought the caravan from them. The water container was the same price. I think they have wheels on them, not sure.
Such a lot to learn.
well the toilet container is the cassette that is under the loo and is withdrawn from a hatch on the side of the van get your sales person to show you on handover, you may find that your seasonal pitch as drainage to it and water if it has all you will need is a pipe from the outlet under the van again the fresh water can be connect to some vans if you use the fresh water container aqua roll. the van should come with a pump yet again get them to show you on hand over be there dont let them fob you off get them to show you how every thing works even the power supply and gas enjoy your van malc
Did not Salop caravans do a handover, talk you through how to use the caravan and how to connect the water, waste and electrics?
I would go back to them and insist on being shown at least the basics.
Malc1945 - many thanks, that's very useful advice.
Simon100 - I have to go to Salop caravans for the handover the day before they deliver it to Wales (9th April) for us, so I will be asking all these questions then. I just want to find out as much as I can and know exactly what I should be asking. Many thanks.
take a small digital camera with you ,and photograph everything your shown ,insist also on being able to take notes while your shown .failing you absorbing it all most of us are a friendly enough bunch and you would only have to ask on site for help .
it seems daunting at first ,but soon becomes second nature .
Thank you all so much. Feeling a lot less anxious about it all now. Looking forward to using our van and meeting lots of new people. I will be taking our camcorder to record it and see if I can get a friend to come as well. OH can't come due to work commitments.
