We're off tomorrow near to Swaffham from Essex, knowing what Brandon is like to drive through we have in the past used the A11 and A134 to avoid the congestion, is this still a good idea as I've heard that the A11 has dualing roadworks going on?
Cheers.

Depends where in Essex you are coming from but you could go to Bury St Edmunds on A14 and then take A134 to Theford and on to Mundford and pick up the 1065 there. the A11 delays vary a lot depending on what they are working on that specific time and day. Sometimes you can sail straight through while other times you wonder if you are going to even move.

If you wan to avoid the traffic you could do A12 to Ipswich and A14 to Woolpit and then A1088 to Thetford and pick up the A134 there. A1088 is not a major road but it does have a few weight restrictions that stops HGVs and in general you can keep moving. I use it a fair amount and with the exception of the police doing speed checks in Little Fakenham I have never had a problem even when towing big twin axle caravan.

Thanks birder99 we did your route and it was great, travelling on a Friday lunchtime and not getting stuck in any traffic whatsoever, we have done this route before but not with the A1088, although a bit slow and a few roundabouts to contend with it's make it all worthwhile when on the radio you hear about the problems on the A11 and Brandon area.
Thanks
