We're looking at buying a 2007/2008 Geist Ak495 and have been doing some research regarding weights and specs. Having noticed some threads about continental built vans and them including gas/water allowances in the MIRO figure. We approached Elite Caravans with the question. Their reply threw up another query, is the caravan an Australian or UK spec as they were selling both around 2007/2008.
Can anyone enlighten me to the difference between the two caravan specs?
Yup, the Aus spec had thicker (heavier gauge) chassis rails, as the originals were not up to Aus roads etc. There have been cases of GB spec varieties fracturing these rails (mine included!)
There have been threads on here regarding this, so check it out! Insurance companies have been known to pay out, citing possible impact damage and BPW have been known to replace these rails. Keep us in touch.

Gary at Elite came back and confirmed Aussie vans had aircon and roll out sun canopies fitted as standard which would push up the laden weight. The Ak495 has the Alko chassis and not the BPW, which from the historical forum threads seem to suggest had a weakness problem due to Geist specifying lighter grade steel to keep weights down. We're off to Elite and White Arches today to review Elddis/Tec/Sprites and a Geist to compare.
As you have discovered, the Alko chassis was not affected by this problem, as Geist had re-spec'd the chassis by this stage. It is a great shame, as the Geist we have (with new rails) is as solid as could be, no damp or any other problems after 9 years of use. Let us know how you get on today - good luck!
