we have a sterling eccles quartz 2010 when i hook the car to the caravan ready for towing there,s a loud clicking noise coming from the extarnal vents where the fridge is, does anyone have any ideas
I'm not familiar with the newer type fridge set up but it isn't an electronic ignition trying to fire up by any chance is it as I used to have an electronic igniter on my older Electrolux fridge in my previous caravan. Just a thought that's all.
As Michael says there is a good chance it is the 12V relay as the car is probably not putting out a high enough voltage for the fridge at low revs. If it still does it at a fast idle I think you should have it checked as it could mean that their is too much voltage drop in getting as far as the fridge. This could be due to incorrect wiring of the car or if it is a modern car with a CAN bus it may need reprogramming to allow for the caravan 12V load when towing.

Hi Ian. Just a thought. Your van is modern and may have a three way fridge in it. Stupid to suggest the fridge may be set to the gas setting, thus if you try to initialise the system the fridge may be trying to ignite the gas. Make sure he fridge is off before connecting the power source. Cheers mate.... Bayfive
