Toilet: It depends on the model toilet as to where the manual flush is. On a bench type C4 model the manual flush is a round dial that you turn, if it's an electric flush model then it usually has a button in the centre instead that flushes via the power form the leisure battery. On a C200 model the manual flush has a lever on the top that you pull up then push down, on the electric flush it doesn't have a handle. There are other model toilets on the later caravans that I'm not familiar with but if you go to a caravan dealer they will point out whether the unit has a manual or electric flush toilet or not. Personally I prefer the manual flush as I use less battery power and there are less things to go wrong with it than an electric flush toilet. The principal of operation is very much the same but the manual flush has no electrical circuit to it for it to flush. Hope this explains the difference.
Generator: The Honda suitcase generators are the ultimate leisure power as they are much quiter than other makes plus they have a sine regulator built in to control the electrical flow (to reduce the electrical spikes) whereas others don't and this why you pay more for a quality product such as a Honda generator. There are other things you need to know like you need to unplug an appliance before you switch off the generator otherwise you are likely to damage the appliance but like I said before and keep saying, it's all in the 'Caravanning Handbook' so you really need to buy it because it's absolutely priceless and it will save time asking questions about various topics that are all covered in this book.
From what youve said its an elecric toilet. Ive just been on your link and bought the caravanning book. I feel daft asking all these questions but sometimes its better to ask people that know because they do it. cheers for all the help. What do you think of the solar panels? Is it worth getting one of those rather than a generator? xxx

There are no daft questions, only DAFT ANSWERS!
Don't worry ask way, everyone's a beginner at some stage.
------------- I came into this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left.
I have the13w suitcase solar panel you mention and this is more than enough to keep my battery topped up but I only have 2 12v LED strip lights to run off the battery.
To run water pump, lights and a TV for a couple of hours a day I would say you need to be looking at a minimum of a 43w panel which will cost around £160 upwards.

Oh blimey this is getting complicated!!! I have absolutely no idea about inputs and outputs and so forth. I would usually go for sites with hook up but we're bikers and love going to the BSB and WSB and the tracks have camping but no hook up. We can probably survive with no tv but need our phones charging as we both have mega family issues. The kettle like you say can be boiled on the hob so no biggy there. Ive seen a briefcase solar panel thats 13w and £50 is that any use to me?? xxx
Are you towing the caravan with a car? Just that you said you were bikers.... If it's a car your towing with, you can charge your mobiles from the cigar socket in the car.
My battery lasts more than a weekend off the grid. The battery is only powering the lights though, I have no 12v pump or powered loo.
The last time I did have these things (small romahome), I didn't use the water pump but a small 4ltr water carrier, used the fridge on gas, used the kettle on gas, and all was well.
If all you really need is phone charging, lights, water pump and possibly electric loo, the battery will last for ages.
Phone charging using a 12v car adaptor uses practically next to no electricity. Change any light bulbs for decent SMD led bulbs (look on Ebay and put SMD in the search) and these too will use next to nothing. While the water pump and electric toilet do use more power, they are on for relatively short periods, so use little electricity in the scheme of things.
Then you can simply forget about generators and solar chargers.
We have decent LED downlighters in the kitchen. There are 10 bulbs which cost £25 on E-bay. All 10 on together use less electricity than the two tiny bulbs in the double oven.
Many including myself do not like generators, noisy and make my tv go funny with lines across it.if you are on a main site there could be complaints.on a cl site a lot of people use them,or at a meet.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
You said you are going to use caravan for race meetings. Then using a generator should not be a big problem if used considerately. use the generator during the day to charge your battery. Get an inverter suitcase generator, most are almost silent at low loading. eg a Honda EU20i. Inverter generators do not interfere with TV computer etc
