Hi
Me again. I am a bit confused (nothing new there!). Our tourer is not going to be towed, it is going on a seasonal pitch all year. When I bought it the guy said we would not need a battery as we would be using electric hook up all the time. Now someone has told me that we will need a battery for "taps & things".
Please help...do we or not? If so, what is the best one to get and what should I be looking at paying?
Many thanks....
Chris.

Some older vans and a lot of european vans do not have , and are not designed to have a battery. The very old vans having gas lights and physically pumped water and non flush type loos. Our first van, 1962 Sprite, was of this nature. Later vans not designed for a battery, were fitted with a transformer which when hooked up on site would allow all the 12v accessories to function and if this is the type of van the op has then , no, a battery is not needed whilst on site with ehu. However, there is no reason why a battery can't be fitted, but if one is then it would require a charger to be fitted as well. The existing transformer would not be sufficent to charge the battery..A van that has been designed to take a leisure battery will have a combination transformer/charger fitted and although can be used without the battery fitted, it is always better to have one in circuit, even if it's an old kn*ckered car battery...........Mick
