There seems to be a lot of new people taking up caravanning but very few threads on DA camping. Let me explain, if you belong to the caravan&camping club on your membership card you will be registered to a local DA. these associations hold rallies and holiday meets on a regular basis to which you are most welcome to join anywhere in the country some are held on caravansites some in a farmers field. I belong to the Coventry DA and have attended their rallies and have had some fantastic w/ends and holidays with them and met so many friends over the years. Not only that the price is very good value for money most weekend meets are £8.00 per night .Hope people can expand on this thread as we need to get more people out on the field. So don't be shy give your district association a go you will not regret it.Ps you will always be welcome to Coventry DA meets . Please have a look at our website www.coventryda.co.uk
Whilst I think D.A.s are a good idea, especially the meets and rallies, not for us I'm sure. ukcs has a great itinery of meets organised by members and you don't have to be a member of anything other than the web site. My own preference when touring, is not to use local sites, but to take off to other parts of the country with which we are not familiar. Not knocking either of the main clubs or the DAs but perhaps not everyones cup of tea. Each to his/her own......Mick

I agree Mick, we all want different things from our trips away.
We are C&CC members, but mostly for the CS camping. We prefer peace and quiet for our leisure time. Organised activities are not our cup of tea,or glass of wine!

The thread was aimed at those of us that are new to caravanning. This piece is taken from the CDA website it refers to respecting your privacy and a wealth of caravanning experience which to a novice caravanner can be very helpful just as this website is.
We have a very strong committee who are committed to ensuring everyone who camps and caravans with us, have a lovely time no matter how long or short your stay. With a wealth of experience in camping and caravanning there is always help at hand when needed. Our meets are varied and at times we have entertainment and get together's, at other times we have peace and quiet. It is up to you how much you wish to be involved, we welcome your attendance and respect your privacy.
Give us a try, we promise we have some lovely sites for you to enjoy.
At least get the name correct if you are going to promote something - it is the Camping and Caravanning Club. I sometimes go to DA meets but they can be a bit to full on for me but the Temporary Holiday Sites are fine as there are people from all over the country who simply want t cheap holiday. Most are under £10 a night in peak season for a family and whilst facilities may be a bit thin on the ground I find it makes my membership worthwhile as do the CS sites where on some out of season I am often the only person.

When we first started caravanning we went to a few rallies and events and found that we were made very welcome. Help was there if you needed it but generally we managed without and it was good that we were allowed to try ourselves before we asked, We found that help was never forced on us but always offered if we needed it.
Now we have more experience we tend to go places by ourselves and prefer the solitute (even on large sites) of being left alone. The rallies we went on were usually well planned to the degree that we found little time to ourselves which is the main reason we stopped going.
It is good to have the option and many people obviously get a lot out of (and give a lot to) DAs but please don't force them on everyone.
I thought exactly the same when I started reading this thread, however, we have attended many DA meets in the past but many of them can be somewhat cliquey which is offputting from the outset regarding newcomers. Even some of the THS (Temporary Holiday Sites) stewards can have a blunt attitude on arrival so even though they are cheap you may as well be pitched on a proper camp site with full facilities and basically keep yourself to yourself. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for rallying and creating friendship but I will be quite honest we've never been out with the Coventry DA at all so we may give just give it a try this year and see if their club differs to the majority of the other DA's of the Camping & Caravanning Club's 'District Association' meets.
Went on a DA meet several years ago, never again. It was like walking into a room of strangers.Several club rules broken IE dogs on the loose and caravans too close together. We love staying on club sites and have met lots of nice people but DA meets no.They are like a seperate little club, sorry.
I enjoy DA camping very much. I like the welcome on arrival and the chat before we find our pitch. We are always told to observe the 6 metre rule. Most meets in our area are free and easy, only Bank holidays tend to have organised activities. The variety of sites is good - some just fields and some full facility Its a great way to get cheap camping and we look forward to planning our weekends and main holidays. As we're beginning our third year we're meeting up again with people who we have previously met - its amazing how you can pick up a friendship with a family you only meet at Easter but feel like old friends when you get together. Our daughter is also getting a good circle of camping buddies who she keeps in touch with via the internet. I know people think its odd. but Tea Round The Pole at the end of the weekend is a nice way to say goodbye and safe journey home.
