Hi can you give me some advice... I have got to change my tyres this year and I have currently 195 70 r14 96n I have rang etyres and they are putting on 2 x MAXXIS CHEN-SHIN 195/70/14/C/8Ply

I am not sure as they are not the same codes but is this ok.

I have a bailey caravan .... So confused ... Got to get it right it's all I have between road and van.

I also got to change my tyres for my Bailey but they are not that size ,Mine are 185 and he put a pair on my van .These are better than what were put on from new (They are more heavy duty ones and a bit different) but they should know a caravan dealer but he done them at the same price what he quoted me 2 Tyres for a £100 so i very happy ...

Etyres are really good, if that's what they've recommended then they will certainly do the job.
Personally I'd upgrade an extra few quid and ask for nankangs. They're excellent value for money

96n I'm pretty sure is the load rating and speed rating 96 I'm certain is 710kg and n is 87 mph which you will never do in a van anyway.

The Maxxis tyres you mention are on etyres website as load/speed rating of 96N so a direct replacement for your old tyres. The 96N will be on the new tyres so ask the fitter to show you this before fitting tyres.

Jason, the tyre man has put commercial tyres on for you. That is what the "C" stands for. It is desireable to have these heavier duty tyres on caravans. After all, they carry more weight than car tyres usually. And the load going round a fast bend can increase on one tire considerably. And I tyre of American English . . .

I'm confused, I have a 195/65R14C listed but not 195/70R14C?

There has been much debate over the 195/70R14 tyre with either 95 or 96 load index, these are 'reinforced' tyres and generally being used to their maximum capabilities which is not considered best practice.

You do then have three more suitable, more common and cheaper! alternative choices, these being; 175R14C 99 load index, 185/75R14C 102, both of which are the same diameter as originals, or 185R14C 102 which is slightly bigger and will raise the van about 10mm, only though an issue if a mover is fitted that will need adjustment?

All three though need different tyre pressures to suit the weight of your van.

185x14C van tyres are probably a better replacement for the op's tyre size because you have a much wider choice of tyres in this size including premium brands & as pointed out available in higher load rating.
