Morning all,

I thinking about swooping the tent for a caravan and I'm just trying to get my head around towing weights...I drive a 07 plate VW Caddy Van and was wondering if this was right...... Kerb weight of my Caddy Van is 1,455-1,573 so going on the lower number would give me a maximum towing weight of 1236.75 at 85%? or do I have to take into account the tow bar that I'll be fitting?

The max towing weight for your van will be in the van handbook, provided it is in excess of the 1236kg figure you quote then you can safely tow that weight. The '85% rule' is just a guideline for safe towing, it has no legal standing, the figure is not critical so you don't have to worry about weight of towbar etc.
