I would welcome suggestions for the best route from the M62 in West Yorkshire to the CC Club site in Southport ( PR8 1RX ) have never been to this area whilst towing & would appreciate any advice from those familiar with the region. Pete

The post code you have given is the lifeboat station.
I go to southport regularly. m6 north chorley turn off tern right at the pub/restaurant. past the hospital, then just follow the signs to southport. the roads are quite small but no prob. Is it the Lansdowne you are going to?

The roads into Southport are all good from motorways

The roads into Southport are all good from motorways although you sometimes hit a bottle neck at Ormskirk depending on which way you go.

living near Warrington, I'd go M62, M57, A565 into Southport all motorway and duel carridge way until just outside southport. I'd avoid Ormskirk as its a bottleneck for the area. Hope this helps.

We go the same way as mdhoughton. We go M62, M57 then there's a tricky bit as you leave the M57 to get on to the A5207 which leads to the A565.Follow this past Formby and then look for the coast road to the left and take this. It's just past the small airport on the left. This will take you to the CC site. Best looking on Google Earth before you go.You go past the site(looking on Google Earth)and then turn right at the next roundabout then first right, go past the large car park on your right and you will come to the CC site.It is on a road which is a dead end,Try not to miss the entrance.

I would agree with this route. I live in Formby and this avoids any town centre's etc

Thanks for all your advice. Looks like 62,57,565 for us. Any comments on the site and Southport itself? Pete

Lovely site next to the park. Take a short cut through the park, there's a path from the site, to get to the shops, supermarket etc.

Turn right after checking in, nicer pitches.

Haven't tried it yet but there's a train direct to Liverpool a walk away.I'm not sure but if you are of a certain age I think, and only think, you can use your by pass on it.I wonder if I've dreamt that!!!

Just checked, no,unless you live in Merseyside you can't use the buspass on the train but definitely on all buses in Merseyside.

Best way to travel to Liverpool is to buy a Daysaver £4.60 to use after 9.30am on the train. We are going to do that next time we go.

I wonder if Wedgy can verify this. There is a sign after you reach the end of the M57 which shows Southport. Don't follow this.I think you follow the Bootle sign, to the left and quickly get in the right hand lane to go right. This is the tricky bit if you haven't been before.Try and work it out before you get there, very busy junction with many lanes and lights, especially towing a caravan,

Hi Path20 we don't have a pass although my wife should have BUT has to wait till she is 61yrs 6mth to get hers !! I've been looking at the tricky bit on google maps , can't see a sign for Southport but the text says " slight right to stay on M57 ( signs for A5036/Bootle ) " we are there on Sunday so hopefully the traffic will be OK ( ever the optimist as my wife always says ) We haven't been to Liverpool for ages so we are looking forward to a day trip there as well as Southport itself. Pete

This is a great site although very windy when we were there, I would personally follow the route given in the caravan club book, we returned via Ormskirk and it was very busy, enjoy your holiday.
