OK our first Caravan arrived today a 1993 Abbey 516.
Hooked it upto the mains and installed battery. Everything seemed to be working fine.
I lost power to some of the lights and the control panel no longer works. It shows battery charging and mains power but none of the 12v appliances seem to work.
There is a clicking sound from the transformer when I push the 12v button and all the lights on the panel light up, but do not stay on.
Has anyone got any suggestions as to what may have happened.
Sounds like a fuse has blown, if you have checked all of them on the control have a look around the battery and look for an in-line fuse. your water pump is 12v, water heater is 240v mains.
Check your battery first could be discharged should show 12.7 volts on the dial for a full charge.check when connected to EHU that the gauge goes up to 13.5 to 14 volts,if not charger is not working.check all 12volt fuses.our caravan has a main switch just for the lights easy missed, usually near the door.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
Ok have checked all the fuses and all seem ok. 12v light shows on the control panel but when pushed the transformer clicks but nothing happens. The control panel just stays blank. It has worked once and all the lights came on and the lighting worked, but since then nothing.
My Brother In law thinks it may be the relays so that is the next job, replace the relays and see if that solves the problem.
My brother in law and myself decided that it was the relay switches and then my wife decided to have a go at pushing the buttons on the control panel....Gues what it all started working.
The van is 20 years old and you sometimes have to push the button several times for the lights etc to work, but we have left it on all day and night and it seems to work OK once it is on.
Of course my wife thinks she has the magic touch now, but hey it works so we are both happy.
I also want to say that I have been reading many posts on this forum and found some very useful hints.
Great place to get info and its down to you guys who reply to our questions on a regular basis, so a big thank you.
I am sure I will be back soon with some other problem.
