We picked up our new Bailey Unicorn Cadiz yesterday and headed off to the campsite one mile up the road from the dealer (Raymond James) for our first night in it, and I'm so glad we spent it so close to the dealer as today we have returned it because of problems. This will be a good test of their customer service! Stuff that I would have thought should have been picked up on the PDI were missed; such as a cupboard door catch sticking and very stiff to operate, one of the window blinds wouldn't stay up and when you used the shower it leaked out the bottom of the caravan (and I'm not talking out the waste pipe) not to mention the strange clock where time stood still as only the second hand would move and the minute and hour hands didn't move! They are calling tomorrow to let us know when we can pick it up again. Let's hope they come up trumps and continue with their to date good service!

After 12 years of reading post on here I think in many cases the PDI cost is just a con to get more money out of you and more often not done.if it was there would be NO faults found on delivery and handover.

------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
Discounted Insurance Quotes for UKCampsite.co.uk visitors! Up to 12.5% off!
And this is after they put delivery back a week because the workshop was so busy! They have been very good but now I'm beginning to wonder what else they have missed! It don't fill you with confidence in Bailey or the dealer and we switch from a Swift to Bailey ........

our friends have a severe problem with a lunar van, brand new, damp readings of 70+, not impressed. why are new caravans coming out of dealers with such problems?, surely someone is not doing their job. good luck anyway with it.
There appears to be a massive gulf between the caravan buyers & the industry that supplies those caravans. The buyers, for their money expect a perfectly built & adjusted caravan that is perfect from the word go. One would expect the industry to be 100% behind their customers on this.
Unfortunately caravan factory shop floors & dealer workshops are staffed with ordinary employees who do not share the caravan end user's aspirations, in fact I doubt if most give a flying f***. I would guess most are not caravanners & have no interest in the leisure side of the industry they work in. They just come to work to a job they are indifferent to & think about going home again, much like most hourly paid employees.
What caravan industry employees fail to do is put themselves in the place of the caravan end user. When they finish work on a caravan do they say to themselves "is this caravan in the sort of state I would want it if myself & my family were going to use it?" I somehow doubt it.
Well said Tentz I think you have hit the nail on the head! If they realised that by doing a better job they would safe guard their jobs everyone would be happier. Personally I would love to work in the caravan industry what could be better than combining a hobby and work :)
Let's hope it's all sorted soon and we can finally bring our new van home.Gary a new lunar with damp of 70+ that's very wrong and think I would tell the dealer to keep it!? Good luck to your friends with sorting that out.

We have just switched form Bailey to Swift!!!!
Picking it up tomorrow!
Speaking to a dealer recently who told me that to save money the big manufacturers got rid of their experienced staff as they cost to much and employed staff straight from the dole at minimum wages !. Told me that someone who's job was to fit high level brake lights, cut a hole in the panel and fitted the light without using sealant. Took about 6 months before the problems appeared with internal walls bulging. Caravans are now being shipped back to the factory as dealers are refusing to do the work.
Also brand new Elddis inolved in a bad smash, when they examined it they found that every panel was full of water !.
Omg what have I done lol I should have kept my 7 year old swift!

Ooops at least Bailey are still in business! I'm hoping the dealer is going to come up trumps and everything will be okay in the end! Fingers and everything else crossed. The only serious thing is the leaking shower unit if they can fix that properly it will be okay I told them in no uncertain terms not to bodge it with loads of silicone!

Its the old story. The manufacturers develope all new jointing techniques which they claim will banish leakage and then use the wrong sealants. As well as Stealth, all the major brands have made these claims e.g ' Airplane jointing' - funny that as no airplanes leak and their structure comes under more stress and strains then being towed down a motorway !.
So the sealants they are using must be the culprit and one manufacturer has asked a university research unit to test the one they use because of problems. Its apity they hadn't done that before using it.
I've heard of one sealant that after a short time turns to the consistency of porridge and another where it erred to far towards the adhesive properties instead of water barrier and saws had to be used to get an awning rail off !.
Of course all this is compounded by poor build quality when the heads of screws are broken off during construction so there is no tight joints !
Cars used to be rubbish until they started using robots to build them. You only have to look at Bailey & Swift factory videos on youtube to see the problem. The actual construction process is not complicated but it does require care & attention from operatives.
Possibly one reason German caravans have better build quality is simply because employees take their work more seriously. Different country, different mindset.
That don't sound good a 4 year old caravan being written off because of damp! Just goes to show that whatever the make you can't be sure of the build quality especially if you get a bad one! They damp tested our 7 year old challenger when we traded it in and the highest rating was 17% in the washroom corners.
With our new caravan leaking from the shower unit straight out the bottom of the caravan water ingress and damp getting in to the body was a real concern, we have extended the water / body ingress warranty to 10 years but only time will tell with regard to the alu-tech body shell!
