So we're about to take delivery of our first van and as it will be stored on our driveway up by the side of the house I need some advise on the the most practical security measures. It has an Alko AKS 3004 stabiliser so is the Alko hitchlock the best or a another/ What about an Alko wheel lock or a clamp? Then there are corner steady locks are these beneficial? And anything else?

Where best to purchase, does anyone know if there are deals if we do a multi-purchase? Any advise would be welcome.

regards

hi , i have my van stored down the side of my house and have the alko hitch lock, wheel clamp and a bollard concreted into the drive way .

you can put everything possible on them but it seems that if they want your van they will find a way of getting, it all you can do is make it as hard as possible for them so they move on to somebody else .

Best bet is to insure before you get it home as it can taken the same night.ours at home has two wheel clamps, also hitch lock, alarm,a heavy chain over the chassis at the front to a ground anchor, two wall anchors at the rear with chains to rear legs.only use top quality locks and heavy chain.takes me 15 minutes to unlock it to go,but I do not mind.its just a case of slowing them down so they may get caught.

We have the alko hitch lock, 2 wheel clamps, steady locks and a chain.

I see them only as methods of slowing them down as if they want it they will take it no matter what you have in place.

The Alko wheel lock is allegedly one of the best forms of preventative measure - though not the easiest to fit - interested to hear of any reports to the contrary?

As everyone says most so called security measures simply slow down the detemined thief. Our 2009 Bailey Pageant Bordeaux was stolen when new from a silver standard CASSOA storage site and the insurance claim was mainly to cover damage done when they removed the security gear - Milenco wheel clamp/new wheel and Alko hitch lock/tow head unit, rear steady locks virtually useless.

Best advise is fit a tracker - though our DIY gadget wasn't turned on when taken, our van was located in 4 hours and recovered within 8.

Link the van to the house alarm system and have the alarm upgraded to auto dial.
if the van is moved the house alarm will sound and auto dial will phone you with a recorded message
still wont stop them though, if they realy want it

our tin tent is in a gold cossa storage yard with very good security measures, even so our 'van has an alko hitch lock, alko wheel clamp and cris tags fitted

but at the end of the day if some theiving numpty wants it bad enough ( don't think they try to nick ours anyway ,she's far too old) they'll have it ,all we as owners can do is put as many obsticles in their way as possible

no tin tent outings booked as yet ,just another cruise in Sept' booked so far

We have ours on the drive with clamps etc, but both cars block it in at night they would have no chance.Unless they made loads of noise breaking car windows. But it didnt stop a gypsy snooping the other week. Also we have nosy neighbours for extra back up during the day!

mines just got a hitch and wheelclamp, but also an alarm sensor for the house (wireless) and CCTV covering that side of the house.
At night theres also my defender parked in front of it which , in light of recent landrover thefts, is locked and armed to the teeth too.
Soon to be added a bollard at the front of the driveway and a ring in the floor to chain both the caravan and defender to.
