Hello everyone, I am totally new to caravanning and would be grateful for any help please.
I have 240 power to the caravan, but the status ariel, spotlights and roof lights, extractor fan , water pump and heater have no power, I have checked both fuse boxes by the door and under the left hand seat and all appear to be intact.
Can this be the leisure battery being faulty or dead or is this not required when I connect the caravan to the site power via the power lead
Thankyou for any advice you can give me ...

yes you will definetly need a 12v battery in line ,whether or its a leisure battery is entirely up to your personal usage ,if your ALWAYS going on EHU sites then a car battery is cheaper and will do the job .
.your problem sounds like a completely flat battery (i think you guessed that anyway )they are affected by cold weather and if its been left in the van all winter it will unfortunately have had it ,once they fall below 10v charge any battery is effectively dead .you might get it to appear to take a charge but it won't hold it .
best bet is take it out and take it to a car garage they will test it for you .i take mine out of van and leave it on trickle charge all winter .
a decent s/h battery will do the job as long as its charged ,do you know any friendly garage staff or the local scrap yard might have one

Think the battery has failed but you should still have 12 volt supply when connected to the EHU from the charger.sounds like the charger is not working.

You mention no power to the 'heater'! I would expect the heater fan not to work if there is a 12v issue but the room heater and water heater would both be mains powered. Do you definitely have mains power to the van?
