I have been towing for two years now after moving over from tents and the one thing that strikes me as strange is we are all very friendly on site and happy to chat and help our fellow car caravaners be it setting up awnings or emergency repairs or just passing the day away chatting, But when it comes to driving down the road passing each other nothing. I run as one of my vehicals an old land rover defender and when Landrovers pass drivers give a wave whether you know them or not. I have experienced this over 200 miles from home. So why do we not give a friendly wave as we pass we are after all sharing an important thing we are on holiday and we are probably some of the nicest people you will find. I am going to wave at every van that passes me on the road this year when I am towing (you never know I might start a craze).
Give a wave it is free and makes everyone feel good.
For me I do not think it safe to wave at passing caravans, add to that the fact they could be thinking something is wrong with there unit.gone are the AA days and cars are much faster.just my opinion mind.

Michal I wasn't thinking of a full bodied wave out the window more a quick raise of the hand off the wheel showing the Pam of your hand I would think as capable towers we could manage that. But you bring up a good point and the reason for not doing it flashing your lights as an acknowledgment may lead someone to think they have an issue with their unit. And why don't the AA solute any more as I pass god knows I pay enough each year
When on the motorway I keep thinking of some kind of wave that says your front skylight is open,I have seen a few and not been able to tell them.not thought of one yet.

Oxter yeh I have waved on the smaller roads also and yip lots of strange looks (keep driving dear don't look at the strange man ) good on you thats two of us
Lion yes I had an old skoda Estel and we all waved at each other I know beetle owners used to do the same.
Michael bring back the good old CBs (now I am showing my age) we still use them in the off road fraternity they are still as handy as ever.

Yes I had an original jeans model VW Beetle some years ago, I loved waving to other vdub owners.
I was gutted when we got the van and found caravaners didn't wave to each other.
I really wanted to wave. Although first time out towing a fully loaded van I was so scared I was hanging onto the seat for grim death, so waving wasn't a possibility
I always feel like waving when I see other caravaners but was worried they would think who's that nut waving at? My 5 year old amuses himself on journeys long and short by giving people cheery waves. If anyone waved at me I would happily wave back....
But.... I have not found that fellow caravaners are actually that friendly once on site. Not that anyone is rude particularly but most people keep to themselves. Most people seem to have tv's (we dont) and sit watching them in the evening. Their free choice of course. Not sure sadly that waving will catch on :(
Fee Fi Fo know what you mean but give it a try if they don't wave back well their loss and if they think your mad well your in good company I know what you mean about folk sitting watching TV in the evening I have read a few things about it saying it is killing off the social side of caravan sites but as you say everyone is perfectly entitled to spend their time as they like and we do have one but only for rainy evenings when it's dark. The wife and I always take a walk around the site we are staying of an evening at and generally get a hello from most fellow caravanners.
And special to young master Fee Fi Fo for being the most active and junior member of the give a wave club

As a one time Citroen 2CV owner (who always waved) I like the idea.
It's difficult to get it going and I do wave on small roads - sometimes to strange stares.
Brit drivers often wave abroad and of course Brit caravanners do also.
Ok, I will try here more often.
Another former 2CV owner here. Wish I still had it too. Yes, 2CV owners always waved. Some got really carried away, both hands waving flashing lights and blowing the horn. Happy days.
i think it would be better if we got u.k campsite stickers made for the back of the van ,so we could toot other members on overtaking them .
might also help on site to as we could be camped next to one another without knowing
