Yup - it's a RINSE rather than a FLUSH. Just about enough to wet the bowl.

You can get some 'pink' to put in the rinse tank - doesn't do a lot except make it smell a bit rosier. The 'blue' goes directly into catch-tank.

The Thetford model you are referring to is the C-4 which is a bench type toilet as we had one in our previous caravan and yes they do only flush a basic rinse round so you just have to flush about two or three times which is quite normal.

If you have a shower head that stretches to the bowl you can use that.

If you feel the need for extra water then you may be better using a water carrier rather than a bucket because it's easier to store and less likely to knock over plus you will fill the waste tank much quicker causing you to use more blue liquid than necessary. TBH though in all the years of caravanning it's the first I've heard of anyone doing this as the Thetford toilet is fit for purpose unless you have another problem whereby the manual pump is not operating efficiently. The best advice is to have a look at someone elses C4 toilet if possible and judge for yourself whether your toilet flush is delivering the same quantity of flush water or not.

i think if you start using buckets you will be forever emptying it, we have the same toilet in our van and the waste container soon fills up.
