Just been cleaning the van and whilst cleaning the roof, noticed that the skylights are both in major need of a thorough clean, hit on the idea of removing them to do this to save all the mess falling back into the van itself.
They are fitted by 4 hinges that are screwed into the skylight, looks pretty straight forward to do, but as always nothing is really straight forward, would hate to dismantle them (easy part) only to find they will not re assemble correctly, anyone done this themselves?

I've removed the sky lights in various vans over the years. Just remove the 4 screws that fix the four sprung "legs", gently pull them of the lugs on the frame, lift the light up above the roof and lower it down into the van diagonally. In my experience the only place they tend to crack is around the "rivets" holding the two parts together, easily sealed with a small blob of silicone. It's actually quicker to do than to describe, and as easy as it appears.

Hit it with a pointed stick!
Nostalgia's not what it used to be.
Last year I had a leaking sky light whilst away, as soon as we got home I went to local caravan shop and purchased some sealant, unscrewed 6 screws then lifted out sky light, removed all old sealant from sky light and caravan roof wiped round with white spirit resealed round sky light and replaced carefully back on roof, job done never leaked since, just take care retightning don`t over tighten hope this helps.
Burrellboy is spot on, they are fairly quick and easy to remove. You can even dismantle the dome from the awful slotted vent panel that sits beneath it to give all internals a good wash; you'll need a TX30 torx screwdriver (from memory, but could be TX25).
I do mine once a year and you'd be suprised at the improvement a good clean makes to these.
