The reason I ask is we usually replace ours at the start of the season but with the awful weather last year plus life in general we had long gaps of a couple of months between trips.
With our final trip in October last year we felt we had to change the filter as the van had been sitting unused for 2 months.
So we are finally planning our first trip of the year and yet again we are having to replace the filter as we sterilize the system.
i replace ours at the beginning of the season
i remove the old one flush the system sterilize and fit the new one
we dont drink the water form the van just washing up mainly
am i leaving it too long?
We take the old one out and discard when we get it ready for winter around end of October, then around Easter time or end of March we put a new £5.50 refil pac in for the coming season.

We sterilize the system at the start of the year with the same filter from the last.I have taken out the charcoal bag in it so it works just as a blank.Filters i found out they are a waste of money for,as long as the system has been sterilized the water is clean to drink and wash dishes in.
They do block fine particles of dirt though getting to the taps but,you can get over this by taking of the end of the tap spout to clean once in a while..we dont drink from the taps but use a water bottle as above.
I sterilize the system and the aquaroll twice a season. Our Abbey hasnt got a filter and we drink the water, we have done for years and never had a problem. Most of it is boiled for a cuppa anyway.
I was just going to say we boil our water for tea etc.
Surely drinking water from the tap next to the caravan is the same as drinking it from the tap in the caravan, it all travels through pipes like the ones in caravan, how do you think it gets to the tap out side. Also the water has stuff init to clean the pipes too.
The water coming from the taps on a site has chlorine in it to kill bacteria and,if its like the site i go to the water is tested.Bacteria builds up in the pipes in your van over time if not sterilized in the bends just like stagnant water..

I have to add though, I was very glad of my filter when I found a dead earwig stuck to it!! It obviously made its way into the aquaroll and was sucked up by the pump. Had it not been for the filter, the earwig would have been trapped in one of the taps for months - yuk!

Real meat for nothing how lucky are you Jennifer. Yuk !!!
Dont!.....it makes me feel...
I now seal the the Aquaroll hole that the pump goes in with extra cling-film to prevent another earwig / insect incident!! Definitely dont want to go there again.

And there was me wonder whether to bother with a filter at all.
Definitely won't be now boil it up in the Kettle earwig soup yummy
I hadn't thought of not using the taps for drinking water, we too boil it before drinking, which I consider cleaner than drinking unboiled from the taps on campsites after everyone has handled them.
But do you boil it for brushing your teeth or do you use the water from your drinking water bottle for brushing your teeth.
How long would it take for that sitting water in your van to develop problems is what I'm wondering, a week, a month?
