Hi everyone, there is some very interesting posts here now, I have just been to Aberdeen with the Sorento [no caravan attached] and averaged 38 mpg which I am very pleased with. I took my insurance out with Admiral [grp 12] which cost £302, esure were slightly cheaper but from the small print i would not have been able to drive another car on third party with my insurance.
As regards our pretend 4x4's, I agree with Les's statement, how many miles to the gallon do you get and how much do you have to pay for the privelege of owning one. Both my workmates who now have sorento's had Discoverys before them. One absolutely hated it and the other was a Land Rover fanatic but realised that value for money in the Discovery was none existent compared to its pacific rim counterparts when looking for a new car.
Two of my relatives own the Shogun [2005] and a Range Rover [2004] and yes they are nice cars but the owners are loaded so wasting 30000 - 50000 on a car to them is nothing, but we live in the real world and you have to get the best deal/car possible to do the job in hand where you still have enough money to enjoy it.
hi grahame,i think it all boils down to the price you can afford and what you like to drive.had i the money i would be driving a 50k landrover, maybe.caravans are getting so much heavier.one i looked at yesterday was 1232 for a small 4 berth 21 foot. glad you like your sorento.

thanks grahame.has anyone fitted a tow bar to the santa f'e.ie cost/problems?tow bar weight is low 75kgs same as the omega..may be a problem if the boss buy's a new van

When I bought mine new I checked with the Dealership and it doesn't matter who fits the tow bar it wont affect the warranty providing any problem is not caused by the tow bar fitting. I had mine fitted at home by a firm and it cost me £240 that was for the alko tow ball, including the plate which you take off after you've attached your van, the dealership wanted £271. I wouldn't attempt to fit one myself in case I messed it up.

Have a look in the Yellow Pages I'm sure you will find some mobile fitters and get a quote, their price should be quite a bit cheaper than the dealership, their prices are always very expensive.

hi les have just sent an email to hyundai for towbar information.they said reply in 3 to 4 days (THATS QUICK). dont think so.i am worried about the five year warranty being invalidated by fitting a non hyundai bar.what do you think?

I asked if I would HAVE to have my towbar fitted by the Hyundai dealership. They told me that I could have it fitted by anyone, and it would NOT affect the warranty, providing the tow bar was not the cause of the problem. If you have any query your local dealer will confirm this for you as mine did.

You could also lok at the Sorento, I have one and it is really good and very reliable when compared to a Series 2 Disco. see the Honest john review of the Kia. Also the new Sportage is good to drive, and has a reasonable kerbweight, but at 112bhp may be a bit low on power, but you could chip it through Van Aaken.
thanks clive,i now have the santa f'e 2.7V6 . had one drive from fords at bury.ok so far.what was i at dixons for thats another story.went to pick up a new silver car and it was a nice blue /wrong colour/.wrong car /wrong number plates/ wrong registation./pending!!!!!

after trawling through the internet, autotrader, and here, with a budget of £10k, I've bought a 2003 sante fe, 2.0 diesel. hopefully I will now be able to visit places other than Lincolnshire and Holland and go up some hills!!!
