For various reasons we can't get a caravan this year and so we are counting down and doing quite a bit of googling.

We pretty much know what we are after down to the year due to interiors (I know, not ideal ) but as we watch the prices are on the rise it seems.

Do you think this is down to the increase in 'staycations' as the news put it this morning, or does time of year have a bearing on used 'van prices?

FYI we just love the Bailey Ranger 550/6 (2004 - strawberry interior ). Perfect weight (will tow with an estate) and ideal for our family of 2 Ads and 2 Kids. Yes I know, Bailey are popular

Hi Jules,

Used van prices are always at there strongest after Easter into May and June, they then will start to drop in November onwards.

The Stay-cation may helping these prices as well.

My advice would hold off to the winter and buy then especially when people have had a nasty credit card bill for that thing that happens in December on the 25th.

Having said that because you want a specific model and interior color combo then you are reducing your options dramatically about holding out till winter.

Remember all vans will depreciate, by next year as they are all 1 year older. I don't know of any vans that will increase in value in real terms.

I haven't seem residual figures for caravans, but in must be 30-40% drop in year 1 and then 10-15% year on year until about year 8-9 where it will be near 5% per year

Andy.

It reflects the time of year but also probably reflects what's happening in the used car market where prices are increasing.

Yes New vehicles will depreciate but many used vehicles are worth more now than they were a year ago.

Never happens to me every time I ask about a px price the dealer unusually takes an intake of breath and says there is no market for this type of car, this has always happened on large cars, sports cars ,4x4s and small cars ..this always happens on caravans to the only time we made a gain was on our 1st sprite alpine circa 1977 we paid £700 and sold it for £750
