I am selling up my caravan etc and thought others might be interested to learn about the way I've decided to do it.
Piran Caravan Salesare caravan brokers. Basically, you take your van to their site, then they advertise and sell it for you. They will only sell your van at the price you stipulate ie there is no haggling with potential buyers. Piran seem very well organised and the paperwork I have had to complete for them looks to me to be thorough and comprehensive. There is a flat fee of about £300 to pay them plus a small 'storage' charge for each week your van is on their site. I am also paying for them to collect my van and take it to their site as it was permanently sited and my car doesn't have a tow hitch!
This seemed the best way forward for me as I didn't want the stress of selling directly by myself but couldn't take the massive financial hit of selling, ie giving it away, to a dealer.
I'd never heard of a service like this before, are there many around the country?
------------- Tackling life the Western District way
A few dealers will do this for you, though they don't guarantee a sale and don't offer any warranty obviously. I would be sceptical how hard a dealer would try to sell your caravan when he has a yard full of his own.
I bought a trailer tent through a dealer this way a few years ago. I happened to be there looking for one when it arrived.
