First, check the battery off the van. It should read 12volts. 10 volts or less and you have a cell down in the battery. This is a rough guide only, assuming that the battery electrolite is at the correct level. Connect the battery to the van. Plug in the 240v lead. Use a test meter across the battery terminals and you should get between 13,5 and 14.5 volts showing on the meter, this will mean a good charge. 13volts or less and this means that (if you use the 12volt lights) you are using the 12volts quicker than the system is charging the battery. More than 14.5volts and the system is over charging and will "boil" the battery until it is dry. As I say, this is a rough guide only, but it's pretty accurate. Good luck Geoff
