Hi. We've purchased a bailey pegasus ancona caravan today which we collect on Friday. We now need to quickly buy a new full awning to fit it as we go away to holland next week. We are looking at both the Dorema Montana super lux and Daytona as they are both the same price - the Montana is on special offer. We need it to be as lightweight as possible so will opt for the aluminium poles but we need to know what the main differences are between the two from someone who has researched these two awnings previously as the websites say the same about both. However they do describe the Montana to be heavy duty material ?is it a lot heavier? Any advice would help please. Thank you
Yes I did check all the adverts and couldn't find anything suitable. I have however ordered the Montana after speaking to the dorema factory. They advised that the Montana material was better quality and so would last longer therefore as its reduced to the same price as the Daytona I ordered the Montana. I'm sure the Daytona would have been perfectly fine though and had it been cheaper than the montana I would have ordered it.
We have got the Dorema Montana (new from their factory clearance in 2010) with the steel pole construction and the material is made from a kind of flexible plastic polyester. However, although the material is more waterproof (whereby the rain runs off it much easier and quicker to dry and slightly warmer at night) it is in fact somewhat heavier than an awning made from a lighter canvas which is the only disadvantage really even though the awning and poles are in different bags. It can be a bit of a struggle to erect due to the extra weight but this can be solved by removing two of the panels first then zip them in afterwards. We also find that in windy conditions the Montana being heavier is quite robust and less likely to lift but the sewn in storm strap clips at either end are beneficial in extreme conditions. I can't comment on the Daytona but at least you now have some information on the Montana.
Thank you. The guy at dorema told me the Montana only weighed 0.5kg more than the Daytona and in total with the aluminium pole weighs 36kg for a 1050cm size which we thought was good. I think we've made the right decision but time will tell. Thanks again
The lightweight aluminium poles will definitely make the one bag lighter but I find the awning bag on it's own rather heavy although I can lift it myself if I carry it on my shoulder. The plastic awning skirt we always fit in the poles bag and the curtains (in a polythene bag to keep them clean) we always put in the awning bag so the poles don't damage them. We also purchased the 3 rubber locking pads that the poles hook in to that fix against the caravan side and the storm straps that clip into the buckles at each end for windy conditions and found both really beneficial.
Purchased a Montana from Dorema in 2010.Very pleased with it, paid for the alloy poles, 3 brackets and the storm straps. We always unzip the 4 panels before taking it down and do not think weight is an issue at all. Purchased good quality bags from bags r us Wakefield. One for the poles, one for the four side panels and one for the roof piece. Makes packing away a 1000 % better.
