I have a bad back, but I still think carrying & using a battery drill to do a 30 second job is too lazy for me.
I would try to mark, on the caravan body, a spot directly above the steady. That should make it relatively easy to get the winding handle onto the hex bolt without having to grovel on the ground.
I did take my impact driver with me once but by the time you include a extension bar and socket and remember to take it home again plus it was too powerfull really, it just wasn't worth it, I was thinking of something much easier once fitted.
The standard steady leg winder is all I use these days.
Knowing that it will connect to the nut every time by just pushing it into the guide tubes is good enough for me.
I still have an electric drill with me, but that is for unscrewing screw pegs only.
I use a 19mm socket, 18" extension and a ratchet drive on mine. Much easier than a crank handle. You could always mark the back of the van with a small arrow using a marker pen so you know the line to roll the brace around.
As for getting down to it, use the caravan step, or get one of these to help you get back up.
