You`re in the middle o` nowhere. Or somewhere which doesn`t choose to provide internet connection, even when it says it does. WHAT does an ole junkie do? I have air, but SHE won`t let me tear it out . . .

Now I know you guys will have been here before and can provide the perfect solution . . . my phone won`t cooperate on this either . . .so maybe a top up dongle and a long lead will be the answer . .??

I use a PAYG Vodafone Dongle, but mine was bought back when it was a PAYG and so a 15 quid top up will do me a couple of years as I only use it for email and weather forecasts.

The 3network is probably the best for mobile internet and has pretty good coverage even in some of the more remoter parts of the Uk

I have just ordered a 3 dongle, having had it up to here with my BT one, useless bit of kit, wish I hadn't ever bought it. I am not interested in a Smartphone so this is (I hope) the solution, £15.99 monthly contract but you can get cheaper if you only need occasional use.

We always use 3 and had no problem we don't bother with a dongle as we gave unlimited in the phone we have an app that means we can connect lap top to phone on wireless and run it that way no having to buy a dongle. We camp in odd places like sports felids and in the middle of farmers felids and have always been ok from Scotland to the south coast

In areas where the signal is weak it may be better to get a 3 mifi so that you can get it high and above the caravan. It will then let you connect using wifi from the device to the mifi box (rechargeable battery powered). Not a lot more than a dongle and you can connect several devices to it such as laptop, kindle, tablets etc.

I wouldn't jump and blame the phone signal etc, it could be the phone itself.

I was fishing last weekend at Derwent Reservoir with my dad and it is known to have poor signal due to it's location.

I had either one bar signal or none at all, yet he had half to full strength.

Another example is, I can't use my phone in the kitchen - no signal again, yet OH can!

I have a HTC, wife has a Samsung S3 mini, and my dad has a basic Alcatel phone.

I also use 3 which has unlimited internet. I use my smartphone to act as the router by 'tethering' and it's as fast as broadband. We get a good signal where Vodafone and O2 have failed, so am happy.

We watch Netflix movies in bed on the laptop, so the speed is fantastic.

We use PdaNet you can use it wired or or not. I often have my phone in the car glove boxes plugged in charging up and sit in the caravan on the net no problem and you can password it so nobody else can connect to your phone

Hello everybody,
I am using for 2 years now a 3G router in a small box and I am really satisfied of it. It provides a 3G connection really fast and everywhere even in the pampa... You only need to put your sim card in it. I advise to evryone of you travellers which also enjoy the confort of internet.
Here is the cheapest, french website where i bought it: http://arpci.fr/modems-routeurs/5105-wibe.html
Hoping I helped you,
Enjoy your travel!
Josh
