Hi all my names Steve, married to Lyndsay and have three girls Caitlin, Ellie, and Piper.

Having purchased our first caravan (Wyoming) it's going to be our first trip out next week and really can't wait. However we won't have EHU... Fully booked everywhere..... Only away for two nights so not that worried...

Just wondering if we could get as much advice as possible as I'm totally new to touring... Obviously as we are new we pretty much have nothing sorted at the min and don't pick the caravan up till next week,

Thanks for taking the time to read my post and look forward to making a few friends on the forum

Steve

Hi make sure your leisure battery is fully charged and keep lighting and TV if your using one to a minimum just to be on the safe side .
If your battery is up to scratch it should last no problem.
What is your tow car and is it wired up with twin sockets for charging the battery while on the move

Hiya, I suggest you do some reversing on a closed supermarket car park b4 you go, unless your OK about it. Most sites like to have the vans rear end in the pitch. If your not that good when reversing look in your side mirrors and play tennis.
Look left and right and if you see the van coming into either mirror then turn your wheel slightly the other way to keep it straight. Turning a corner? Get the misses to help you with the windows down as the van turns you will lose sight of the back end. DONT jacknife. If she says stop then obey her. Have a look yourself.
If booking get electric hook-up.
Happy holidays.

Thanks for your comments... Tow car is a pajero however only purchased it this weekend and only has the one socket at the min sort that in a couple of weeks. Pretty much jumped in at the deepend and rushed to get it all together.

With regards to reversing, I'm a HGV driver so not worried too much... However been driving trucks for 13 year and still mess it up now and again .

Told the kids they are not having a tv this time as I'm not sure how the battery will last the place I have bought it from we're going to put an 85 but I told them to upgrade it to 110.

Steve

use the gas for the hot water and heater-but you need to make sure your van is level or the gas wont work. get it level side to side first (across the width) while still attached to the car if you can, you may need a choc or levelling block.

you can then level front to back after using the jockey wheel.

make sure you have a torch handy

you'l love your time in the van so enjoy your new hobby

Try looking on the Camping and Caravan Club website. They have some help sheets you can download. Think they are available to non members. Enjoy your new van and car.

Welcome! Congratulations on your new van. If its any comfort to your kids, we have 2, who are 9 and 5 and no tv. Just don't miss it. We take lots of board games, their bikes, swing ball. Don't know if you are going to tour but we also started a scrap book which they put leaflets in and little drawings and writing. We've only had van a year and already its lovely to look back through. Good luck.
