Hi all,

I am thinking of putting in a pressure switch for my water system, which is the best one to get? I have had so many problems with micro switches i think it is about time to change to a pressure switch, will the switch work everything ok toilet, taps and shower.

Also do i need anything else or just a pressure switch.

Many thanks

yes it work proving you have
NO air leaks any where.just disconnect the cables to taps.fit a pressure switch in line provided with a 12 feed and earth lead.should have this for the micro switches no longer used.to set after fitting fill to full as normal all the caravan systems if the switch lets you.turn off pump.close all taps after filling without air in the taps or hot tank.turn switch knob clockwise all the way to the bottom with care, gently.switch on pump, open nearest cold tap to you, there may not be any water evident at this time.very genty in half turns undo the knob/nut upwards JUST until you have a clicking noise and water starts to flow.STOP.close tap and after a few seconds pressure should be reached and the pump light will go off.the pump light should only come on when you lift a tap handle.if it comes on at other times a rest or leak repair may be required.

You will need a non return valve on the water inlet and probably need a surge damper too.

In theory, you could put the pressure switch anywhere in the system. Right by one of the taps would be most convenient as the wiring could be taken off the tap and put onto the pressure switch. In reality, the pressure switch is normally located close to the pump though.

Some pump housings have a built in non return valve, whether yours has this I don't know but without a non return valve as soon as the pump switches off the water will run back into the aquaroll and the pump will restart.

If you don't have a non return valve fitted already or are unsure, one of these would fit the bill. Cut the pipe just inside the where the pump plugs in and fit this in the pipe with jubilee clips, making sure the arrow is pointing into the caravan. This will stop the water running back into the aquaroll.

A surge damper will stop the water pressure hammering in the pipework and taps, causing the pump to rapidly switch on and off and potentially causing leaks. You would need something like
this which will need a tee piece fitted in the water pipe somewhere in order to be connected. The water enters the surge damper and compresses it taking the hammer out do the water pressure increases and decreases slowly in the same manner as the hitch damper applies the brakes.

Surge damper not crucial but a non return valve is a must.needs to go where the cold water feed is coming into the caravan ie in the cold water pipe end.make. Sure it's the right way round too.as they have been put in like that.

I did the same in my `van after the microswitches started failing. Due to separate water pipes for hot and cold, I put two in; one for each although I believe this may not be necessary. It works like a dream; no probs at all, the instructions were clear. But don`t use undersize pipe. Utilise an adaptor or two if you need to. It was a job I enjoyed doing particularly when everything worked!

I`m not sure if the toilet flush works on a different (microswitch) system stil . . .

Shouldnt matter what make switch you use provided it is intended for a caravan. You may need to adjust it though

The non return valve would go as close as possible to the pump outlet. The pressure switch can go anywhere after the non return valve. It's normally mounted in the same area as the pump, but it's probably more convenient to mount it near one of the taps so you can connect it to the existing wiring for the microswitch. Don't forget to disconnect the microswitches and insulate the wiring.

The pressure switch feeds all the taps. So it should be mounted near the water inlet ideally, near where it exits the filter. The instructions on the Whale pump will tell you this and more. Stop worrying; If you use jubilee clips, get the right size for the tubing; that makes fitting much easier. You don`t have to fix the pump; it can be left dangling in mid air. They are brilliant. Mine are Whale ones too.

Have fun!

Not worrying, but anything to do with the caravan i have to fix myself and just want to get it right, my husband will not come out in the caravan if things are not working, Can i wire in the pressure switch to the same place the pump is wired? My plan was water container then pump no return valve and then the pressure switch not alot of room in the on board cuboard so hope it all fits.

So far this year boiler has failed, microswitches on taps, water pump, toilet pump and battery charger. Fixed the boiler and water pump just the rest to do now.

Suggest you remove the wires from the taps and connect them together if you put the pressure switch by the pump. Fit the pressure switch close to the outlet if the non return valve. Cut the wire feeding the pump and connect the cut ends to the terminals on the pressure switch.

Sorry to bully in. I am new to touring caravaning and have just bought a 1993 sprite musseteer but I'm looking everywhere for a wiring diagram using the cassade2 and whale pressure switch.. Last owner has fitted the switch but not wired it in and I can't work out what wires are which.. Any help would be appreciated...
