Hi Julie, glad it's nothing serious then! It does take a bit of getting used to, pulling the extra weight.
I have a lightweight van, I often put my awning, chairs, etc not in the boot, but at the back of the front seats, in the middle of the car, seems to work.
I have a movelite drive away awning, think there's a pic in my gallery. However, mine goes on the back of the van as that's where the door is - although I think something simliar would fit on a side door. It has an adjustable flap which will fit most height caravans, and then you just pull that bit taut before pegging down the awning.
