Hi, has anyone heard or have experience of this company please: classiceriba.co.uk

We are looking at buying an Eriba and I am very nervous buying from the classifieds due to lack of experience. I thought we could have a small van like an Eriba and keep my Bell Tent for the children, whilst selling the massive Norfolk Lake, as it is usually only me & the children that go away and hubby joins for the last couple of days.

Any advice very welcome.

The problem with buying Eribas from these ebay 'dealers' working from home is that they are just inflating the price leading to the ridiculous situation we have now with Eribas priced far higher that what they are worth driven by the greed of these 'dealers'. They will offer no guarantee. The one you mention just appears to be a sales agent for a Dutch used Eriba dealer & the photos on their website appear to show 'vans still in Holland.

Anybody can buy an Eriba off ebay or wherever, either here or in France/Holland & try to turn a coin. Your best bet is to buy privately off ebay & save a bit. Important bit when looking at an Eriba is to check underneath, the square tube steel chassis members around bottom edge of body & those going to centre must be rust free otherwise leave it.

Only buy an Eriba if you really love them. Even the larger ones are cramped inside & space wise they are poor value. The Eriba lover's case that the quality of construction means that an Eriba is the last caravan you will ever need to buy of course means that you are stuck with the thing for the rest of your life.

Some good points there Tentz, I did once covet the Eriba Troll, especially the fixed bed model.

Very easy for towing with a car like my VW Golf.

So of I went to the Birmingham and Manchester shows to have a good look at them, even though I would only ever buy used.

Don't get me wrong, I still like them, but I guess they are a little like a vw camper without the engine.

Like you say, you get so much more for your money with a regular caravan, and I am now more inclined to go for somthing like an "Adria Altea 432 PX Tay"

And buy from a dealer with the extra peace of mind that brings.

Like anything really if the Eriba's were more mass market here in the UK and not so niche, then prices would be a lot lower.

But would that make the Eriba less desirable, could it be possible that a caravan can become a fashion statement?

Recognise what you are saying. If not an Eriba, then can someone please suggest an alternative. I like the shape of the Eriba and the fact that they seem so well made.

Theres no real alternative to the Eriba, at least it wil last you. If you want one you will have to pay the current price. An ebay auction is always cheaper than a dealer. If you just want a small caravan you will get a Freedom or even just a normal older, late 80s/early 90s 12ft body length caravan for much cheaper & no heavier.

Just had a look at a dealer in Belgium they have a model on there at 11000€ for a 2006 model the same model but 2003 on eBay is £9950 so you could look at buying abroad.

This is all the largest used UK Eriba dealer does, source them abroad & then add about £4k to the price they paid. It don't cost much to get them accross the channel.

Achy don't be put off by Tentz....when he was young he was jilted by a lovely lady who owned an Eriba....it caused him to be confused and become a nudist.

You don't seem sharp enough to understand my posts on this subject SG. As I have pointed before out I shall probably get another Eriba eventually, the price will be right, I know where to get them outside the UK & I have extensive knowledge of the marque.

What I try to put across to potential owners is that if you just want a small caravan then there are far cheaper alternatives, If you love Eribas then either source one from abroad if you can do that or pay the price from bandwagon jumping import sharks in the UK who are seeking to profit from the current popularity of Eribas in the same way as happened with VW campers yrs ago.

The connection between VW & Eriba has always been there. The original 1950s Puck was designed to meet the needs of VW Beetle owners who wanted a small caravan rather than buy a larger VW Westfalia camper which had recently been introduced.

Ownership of any rather impractical but totally lovely looking vehicle is always going to be love/hate....

Hi there,

I agree with Tentz you certainly have to pay a premium for an Eriba if you buy from a UK dealer.  This is what we did - bought our Eriba Puck L from Automotive Leisure - as we are not practical and wanted to buy something that had been 'checked out'; peace of mind, know it has been serviced. 

After just having our first weekend away with 'Lenny' we are happy that we went along this line (Puck L's seem to be difficult to buy and we have heard of several 'dubious' stories). 

If you know what you are doing, I am sure that you could get a better deal than we did.  Having said that I hope that we will have many happy years with Lenny.
