Travelling home today we were following a Compass caravan being towed by a burgandy Landrover X reg according to the plate but didn't see the car from front so can't be certain
The first sign all wasn't great was the trailer plate suspended at a jaunty angle attached by rope - number plate written in blue marker pen. The tyres looked very low on both sides.
They were drifting over the white lines on both sides of the road and came very close to crashing into a vehicle in the other lane.
We realised that although they had the trailer plate there, it wasn't connected to the electrics so they had no lights on the caravan at all!
There were cables underneath the caravan which looked as if they were dragging on the road.
They also didn't have any wide mirrors on - from behind the unit you could not see their mirrors which means they could not see us!
We were very glad when they went a different way to us!
i agree, but having been away this weekend with the van i encountered a little old dear in her micra on the M11 doing a sedate 55 mph......i waited found a break in the traffic and passed her, i was touching 70 mph before i could pull back in safely... so its not all nicked vans and pikeys that sometimes need to 'give it some beans' to get to where we want to go ...
Bricklayer you would have passed me as when on me hollibops i travel at around 55 but would have slowed down further to let you pass:) Im never in a rush to get anywhere whilst on hols :)
There is a guy at work who never goes over 55mph as he does'nt want to wear his car out! ( he is as tight as a duck's you know what!) He is a pain on the motorway!
------------- DS-There's more to life than football!!!
Whislt I don't condone most of this, I do need to point out that (whilst presuming your Landrover was a defender) in the manual you do not need towing mirrors for a defender, they are built in, you push the arms out the the widest position (ie at 90 degrees from the vehicle) and this suffices for most standard width caravans.
I will admit, that this view isn't great, thats why I bought extended arm mirrors for a better view, but it still means I dont have towing mirrors per-se.
