Hi
Hope somebody can help! I measured my caravan for an awning as per the instructions on this site and elsewhere- came out as an 825. So, bought a lovely Isabella 825 awning off ebay. Went to use it for the first time this week and it is far too big! At least 75cm. It is an 825 for sure, came with the original bag. What could be wrong, I am mystified?
The van is an Abi Ace Ambassador XL.

I would re-measure the caravan just to double-check your original figure of 825, and then measure the actual awning that you bought, along the whole length of the beading that slides into the awning channel. (Use a piece of thin rope if you've got some, rather than string which can stretch and give an inaccurate measurment.)

If the awning beading length is not 825 and is about 75cm larger, so more like 900, then it's possible that it was supplied to you in the wrong bag with the wrong size written on it.

If the seller mis-sold the item to you, you can ask for a refund.

Good luck.

I will see if I can obtain any further information on the size awning required if you can provide the year of your caravan.

I have checked on the Bradcot website and the only year listed for the ABI Ace Ambassador is a 1992, however the results come out at size 840 cms. which is only 15 cms. bigger which in imperial is about 6" which means is about 3" at either end. If your awning is slightly bigger you can always pull the caravan up onto a pair of ramps and that will give you the extra height you need. I used to have to do this with my previous Coachman which was a size 770 cms. but the only sizes available were 750 or 780 cms. so had no choice but opt for the larger size. If the ground slopes away from the caravan doorway the extra material will be beneficial because it's better to have an awning slightly too big than too small.

Measure the beading on the channel plus from the end of beading to the mud flaps, that will give you the overall CM length. If your caravan is handy you could just slide the awning into the caravan channel and measure how much too big it is on either side and deduct measurement to give you the correct CM.

Just measured, from where mud flap starts right to other side- 940cm. Allowing for mistakes in measuring I'm guessing this is a 925-950. Bag says 825 so must have got mixed up over the years by previous owner?
Bought on ebay months ago in preparation for this first trip so can't really get money back now. Planning to sell on the too big awning and use the money to replace it, hopefully with an 825 isabella!

So 'moz1013' was right then with their comments saying that there could possibly be a mix up with bag and awning contents.

In the alternate the awning could have been altered (though would have been a big alteration) and a piece added which would be a far cheaper option to have it removed than swapping everything.

Yeah, looked into altering but too expensive- should be able to sell the too big awning for the same (or more) than the correctly sized replacement costs. Definitely shouldn't lose any money and simple enough to swap over with ebay, preloved, etc
