If all goes to plan I'm off to buy my 1st caravan Saturday :) . It should be a sterling Eccles 585 with fixed bunks. The scary bit is its brand new :0, lets hope I get the deal I want if not I'm not buying it. Can't believe it doesn't come with gas and leisure battery, it comes with a starter pack but would rather have discount than starter pack .
Lets hope all works out .
Advice is welcome on buying it.
Also as an ex tent person I will have all the gear including a 1 year old top of the range trailer to sell now as well so advice on that would be great:).

Hi Gilb29, the thing to remember is that anything you are offered like starter pack or anything else is only worth half or less to the dealer, than it is worth to you.
He buys the extras at trade price so if you are offered the full value of the extras and you dont need them you are getting a better deal.
The must have items to have (included on top of the offer price)
would be a 110amp leisure battery Gas bottle and if not included, a spare wheel.
when he tells you how much this will cost him, that will be price to you, again because he would have bought them at trade price.
In my experience this would be a minimum on top of a discounted price, i would walk away if offered anything less.

How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
We bought a van mast october. Also make sure it has stabiliser and ask about tyron bands as part if the deal. Other things to think about are the locks (wheel and hitch).
We bought a new caravan earlier this year, we haggled for full "ready to go" kit. We got water and waste barrels. EHU lead, hitch lock and wheel lock. Spare tyre was already on the van. Towing mirrors. Leisure battery and gas bottle. I think that was it.
------------- Started with a motorbike and tent.......my gallery, my life.
See pic, it has the new Alko fitted to it, don't all new vans come with a stabiliser also I thought all new vans came with EHU.
------------- XVI yes?

ehu is included anyway but what you do not need is the tyron gear that is an extra once you hve the essentials waste water and fresh water are certainly needed leveller is a good thing to have although you can easily make one
Nice! Just had a look at your van, it looks great!! We bought our first ever van in April and it is the Eccles 564. We are very pleased with it.
I also had all my camping gear to sell, as well as a year old trailer! I used Ebay for alot of it and put reserves on. However, I obviously got stung in fees!!
I sold a few bits on here via the free ads, I used the local Free Ads and
Gumtree too.
Good luck with your purchase and I hope you get the deal you are after.
Btw, you have six berths, we have four. Both caravans are the same length! Kind of wishing I went for a six berth now so I could take a friend and her child away too. Never mind, something to look for next time....!
Have fun and enjoy!!

You could try listing the folding camper on here - free ads. If selling on Ebay, you will be stung for the listing fees and if using Paypal, their charges as well. Best to list it as a classified ad for a fixed fee and then do the deal with the buyer as cash on collection or BACS.
As for buying the new van, as you have nothing you are trading in, I would expect a discount off the price and the starter pack. As has been said, bear in mind that the items in the starter pack are bought at trade prices by the dealer.
i woudl aim to get thrown in:
locks of your choosing
gas pigtail
battery (no less than 100Ah)
porch awning (if you want one)
water/waste and associated connection pipes
number plate??!
EHU lead thay have to give you anyway, so dont let them price this in the deal.
i would get my own gas bottle (from the local tip) as the getting it is the expensive bit just get it refilled and get them to hook up when you collect.
dont forget a step!
our local dealer gave us a large disount in the shop for a few weeks after and we got mirrors and ramps of our own choosing and a few other bits of course.
Hi Gilb
We too are first time buyers this year, however we went a different route, I have the same philosophy as when buying a car, I would NEVER buy brand new, let some other mug (No offence intended whatsoever) have the depreciation, you can pick up a 2 year old van (Which is no age for a caravan)from someone who is packing up for £1000's less than a dealer AND get everything included, when we bought ours literally the only thing we put in it where our clothes and crockery, everything and I mean everything was part of the deal, it may take a little longer to get what you want but not that much.
My two penneth for what its worth... :)
