We have been advised by the chap who has just serviced the van that we really need to change the tyres.   We had expected this and I'm now looking on the net for the best price.

Question is this - when we bought the van the chap we bought it from told us the tyres had Tyron Bands fitted (which we were pleased about) but will we now need a specialist fitter to take them off and fit them to the new tyres??  Will places like etyres mobile service have the equipment to deal with this? 

If not, can anyone recommend somewhere we should approach.

Have contacted our localish repair shop who can do both tyres for £150 all in, and they obviously know all about Tyron Bands but is this expensive?   The tyres are 185R 14C 102/100R and our van is a heavy Hymer.

Kwik fit at home wil sort your Tyron bands for you with no problem, they used to fit them mobile so should be able to sort tyres with bands in. Other than that, go to your local caravan dealer and ask who they use. I've always had Tyron bands in and never had an issue when it came time to change tyres. They only have to hold the bead off the rim while they undo the band, it's not a problem to a good tyre fitter.

If you have a problem finding a trye depot give Tyron a call, they'll soon point you in the right direction. I certainly wouldn't pay them £15 per wheel extra to change them, they know there's not a lot of issue with the bands are you possibly laid yourself open to being charged a quick £30 extra there by asking the question. They'll all rip you off given the chance.

I did think that £15 per tyre seemed a bit steep but I didn't know how much/little extra work is involved for the fitter.

I'm in the process of getting more quotes.   Keep you posted.

Not much extra involved then if you know what you are doing.   I will bear this in mind when getting prices.

Can anyone recommend a company they have used, other than Etyres?  I know Kwik Fit have a mobile service for vans but am unimpressed with their services with cars and am not inclined to use them.

what does a tyron bar do?

we've got them on our tyres and we would love to know if they are any good.
