Hi all, i'm new to this. I'm usually on the tent side.
We are buying a Freedom Sunseeker at begining of August. The sales assistant told us we don't really need to have a stabilizer as long as we don't exceed 55 miles per hour.
Any opinions on this please??
Many thanks!!

Hi, I have a Freedom Sport Microlite which weighs 750kg max and your Sunseeker is 780kg max and I tow with a 1.6 litre Mitsubishi Space Star and I don't have any problems towing at 60mph it is very stable.
The sunseeker is just under 1 foot longer overall than the Microlite and a couple of inches wider.
As long as you load the Freedom correctly and get the nose weight right, I don't see that you will have any problems.
Hope this helps.
What are you towing with?

You won't need a stabilizer, nothing to do with speed tho. As stated load caravan correctly & you will have no probs.

My Freedom Sunseeker tows like a dream and does not require a stabilizer. As Tentz says above, the speed is an irrelevance. With 50kg noseweight it's steady as a rock and you're good for 80mph (in France of course).

You may wish to read this post about the advertised weight of these caravans.

I have a 1.4 fiesta towing my freedom jetstream. I had towed it a couple of times for 4 hours or so without any problems but and i have had a stabiliser fitted for piece of mind. It does stop some of the jolting if you pull away slightly too quickly and also ensures there is that bit extra security in high winds.

Thankyou all!
Sool, thanks for that info, i have read the link. I can see i shall have to be careful with what i aM CARRYING!!

Rosiepuk, thankyou! I think i may try towing without one for a couple of trips ( only going short distances for a while), and see how it feels. I daresay i will probably end up getting one fitted!!!

So can't wait!!!!

A stabiliser should never be used as an attempt to turn an unsafe outfit into a safe one; but personally I use a stabiliser because of the improvement in the towing experience. When overtaken by a large vehicle, the stabiliser dampens out the attempts to 'waggle'by your trailer, which I find makes me a happier towing bunny.
I am about to start towing a Rapido folding caravan for the first time, so I may have some actual knowledge to report in a few weeks.
Up to now I have been towing a Royale, which waggled like a good 'un given half a chance. Not bad enough to be a problem; it just liked to remind me it was there. An enforced change of tow car means that the Royale will have to wait for a more powerful car to be recommissioned.

If you do decide you want one, I have a Bulldog Major leaf stabilizer coming off my Zenith mid July, almost as new, been used about 12 times, looking for £25 for it plus postage, has all the brackets ect with it, makes it less than half price on new, Im in Derbyshire.
