I am replacing my caravan to increase the permissible weight load. I today contacted my dealer who insisted that once they receive the plate then we must take the caravan in to have it fitted, yet swift are saying they have to send the plate and paperwork to the dealer, not myself, but have not stipulated that the dealer must fit it.
What happened with everyone else that has replated, it's really not convenient to go in and have it fitted, and we are at the same address etc as when we purchased the caravan
I guessing the reason is that it is the dealer who is responsible for fitting the plate that legally changes the caravan's weight limit. If the plate was not fitted & the old one not removed then caravan would not be road legal & there could be legal comeback on the dealer as a result.

Swift have confirmed anyone can fit it, and someone else has said their dealer pointed out the plate contained vehicle specific information but if they were happy to pay the postage then fine.
I wonder if any swift dealer could order it. Maybe my local one(but not where we purchased it from) maybe if I took all caravan paperwork and ID in to them. May be worth a call if my dealers won't budge. I would let the local dealers fit it, but we physically have no slots to get it there.
Swift insist you do it via your dealer (well that's what swift talk representatives are telling me) however they have confirms anyone can fit it, so really unsure why my dealers won't accommodate my request of sending it out.
May have to see if the manager of the dealership can help.
All good thanks, just getting organised for our trip to France in August. Counting down the weeks, and realising I've still lots of little loose ends to tie up!
Out of interest do you have a porch awning for your caravan at all? We have a full one for our long stays, (yet to try out!)but wanted to get a cheaply porch one for our weekends away and wasn't sure what size to get. Will probably wait until the end of the season but just having a ponder!
Trailers manufactured after October 2012 have to be registered and have a VIN plate so ther may be something in this.
A caravan MTPLM plate is not a mandatory plate and can be removed and chucked away, but you cannot do this with a VIN plate which should be fixed to the chassis of the caravan.
When we upgraded all Lunar did was post a new plate to us but that was before Oct 2012.
Swift haven't mentioned anyone about dates. They simply stated, yes the dealer has to order it but anyone can fit it. I will call my local dealer and see if they will order one and post it out.
All sorted, my lovely local dealer has ordered for me and will call me when it's in as I can go and collect it. She said its literally a foil sticker!
I may have to email my dealer just to let them know that there aren't really any stipulations on them fitting it and more so the fact they were trying to charge me an extra £10!

trip sounds fab
We have a Ventura cadet porch awning . We did have a Kampa rally but condensation was awful . The Ventura takes no longer to put up than the kampa rally and it misses the windows perfectly
