Can't find any reviews on them, does anyone have any experience with them or bought van from them? How good are their after sales?

We bought a motorhome from them. They don't normally deal in motorhomes and wanted to get rid of it. We knocked them down quite a bit in price so got it without any warranty or habitation check. We had to have so much done to it, the habitation, not the engine, including a new boiler because the old gas one had been disconnected. I do appreciate that we had no warranty and therefore no come-back. The person who showed us round - after we'd paid - said there was delamination in the floor but "that's easily sorted". These are both things I very much doubt they'd have mentioned even if they'd done a habitation check because they're expensive things to sort out. I've often wondered how much we would still have had to do had we paid the asking price.

They also filled in the V5 log book to send off because they'd never had it registered to them and said they'd send the new one on to me when it arrived. I phoned every week or so for weeks and they kept saying they'd never received it. I eventually had to get a form and register it myself. They'd obviously done nothing at all, probably just binned the form.

Our over-all impression of them is not good. When you arrive (I don't know if you've been there) there are hundreds of old, filthy caravans parked in a compound which you can see from the road. The newer and new ones are OK but the entrance doesn't give a very good impression. The staff are very off-hand but, on the plus side, the shop sells all sorts of bits and pieces that are hard to find elsewhere.

I don't know what their after-sales is like.

Unless you've seen a caravan you like there, I would prefer to go to Flintshire Caravans. We had very good service from them when we bought ours and they're very helpful.

I've heard bad reports of them also. However have heard some great reports about flintshire caravans.

Eek won't be buying there then. We have been very spoilt with our current dealer Leisure Sales and really I want to just buy from them again, but we are very interested in a new Elddis but dealer is crucial. Don't want to have to take it too far from Chester for its annual service but will travel an hour ish. Heard really dreadful things about Campbell's too. Leisure and Flintshire don't sell Elddis

Thanks good to know as we would want to be taking a mobile engineer with us to help with handover (paranoid much) to give all services a good thorough inspection before we accept van and part with the balance. However it will be a new van so need to get first 3 years servicing done at dealership or approved workshop.

I am following this thread with intrest, as we too are looking for a reliable Elddis dealer within 50 miles of Derbyshire, but may stretch as far as Cheshire for the right deal.

Which Elddis are you looking for Fiona? Most of the 2013 ranges are quite scarce to find now, only the odd one available here and there, Tracked down a Dealer special last week to Glossop Caravans, but deal offered and there reputation on here is not so good. Looks like we may have to wait for the 2014 stock to arrive to get our new Avante 462.

Hi Julia at the moment I'm also interested in the Avante on the single axle with fixed bunks to rear and central dinette. I wouldn't buy from Glossop I've heard too many problems. Interestingly Flintshire don't mention Elddis until you look into their new caravan current deals and the logos there so need to check them out as they are very local to us. We may wait for 2014 to see what tweaks they make.

We've bought a used van from them and have had no problems at all. In fact I've found aftersales far better than Flintshire Caravans and some friends will not return to Flintshire after their last service.

Clwyd looks a bit rough and there's a graveyard of old vans on the yard but the work they did to prep ours went beyond belief!

We bought a used Fleetwood off them a few years ago. They corrected all the faults we asked before pickup, and they also honoured the 12 month Warranty when something needed fixing. No complaints there.

I do agree with the off putting collection of crap caravans in the Forecourt, but I think they use it as a security screen for the new caravans they have inside the compound, as they're across the road from a not too salubrious housing estate.

We bought a platinum coachman from Glossop and found them to be excellent from purchase at NEC to handover in Feb this year . We had a problem re key breaking ,no problem we had a spare sent to us quickly and efficiently . I can only speak from my experience but would have no qualms about dealing with them in the future

Romany Girl - have you tried Derby Caravans? They had many new Elddis's to view last time we went there, (about a month ago). We went to view the Affinity 530, which I've completely fallen for..

I agree Glossop get bad feedback on here, but they also must sell a lot of vans that don't have any issues, otherwise they would be out of business. They are a massive company, so they probably have more sales than most, and therefore sell more vans with issues than others just due to scale of sales. Members are happy to complain about a company, but few come on here to say how good a sale, or a particular van is, when they haven't had any issues. If Glossop was as bad as it is made out on here, then they'd be out of business. #justsaying (and probably not the right thread for my rant - sorry Fiona).

Interesting thread though, as one day I aspire to own that Elddis 530 we viewed recently.

Not sure you have to have the van serviced through the dealer either? So long as they are an approved SoLid engineer your warranty will stand.

I think it's reading too much on here which has got me so nervous - I'm even considering a Swift instead of the Elddis (similar layout) just to stick with Leisure Sales as we have had several dealings with them and their Service Manager is an absolute star - see Mr Lard some of us do say nice things about the good people

There was a thread on here quite a while back and it appeared that the worst problems in general (not all) were mainly with customers who bought used caravans rather than new from Glossop. I also have heard how the manufacturers themselves can dig their heels in and refuse to undertake the warranty work, so it does take a good dealer to persuade them otherwise which was the case for us in one instance.

Fiona - it's also worrying that the caravan on another thread with so many problems is an Elddis... There must be hundreds of satisfied Elddis customers though... I guess every manufacturer has a Monday morning/Friday afternoon bad van?

I know! I would be lying if I said that hasn't worried me! It's daft that buying a brand new van is such a scary process - shouldn't be like that should it. As you and Julia say its just one van and there will be people suffering similar troubles with every make of caravan up and down the country we just get to hear about UKCS'ers!
