Hi all
We have owned our van for just two months now. It has just turned one year old.
It was serviced the day before we took it over and the damp test report showed damp around the van of around 9% in most areas and 18% around the front window.
I assumed this was normal and that all caravans, regardless of age, would have some damp.
However, upon talking to a fellow caravanner, he said his van is older and never had a spot of damp. He said our van, at one year old, shold be as dry as a bone.
We have a six year water ingress warranty so should I insist this is sorted or should I expect a little damp? I am unsure what to do and would appreciate any help.
I have contacted the chap who carried out the service for is advice and left several messages but I haven't received any calls back.
Btw, it is a Sterling Eccles Sport 564 2012 model.
Thanks

On our bailey and i think other manufacturers are the same unless the reading is over 25% it is ok and wont be repaired until it reaches the 25%
Tbh the fear of the dreaded damp was the main reason we have just sold the van. Its daft but i feel relieved already
The last readings we had at the 3rd service were all around 14%
Was your swift serviced by a swift dealer or ncc engineer?

The readings of 9 wouldn't cause me to raise an eyebrow, the reading of 18 would make me recheck it with my own damp meter to get a base reading, then check it again in 3 months- time. If it'd gone up in those three months, I'd be expecting the dealer to find out why.
there is a thread on here somewhere that states up to 205 damp is noumal 20-30% check in 3 months, more than that get it seen to ,my 2002 charisma had a consistent 10-15% reading every year and when my 2012 explorer was serviced the dealer put on the report that the damp was checked but not noted as it was ok so I would ignore whoever told you it should be dry as a bone because as far as damp readings go it is.
All caravans will show a degree of moisture, up to 25% I'm led to believe there's not cause for concern.

Adopt a rescue, rescue dogs make great pets, don't support puppy farms.
The road can be tough and rough, but what you put in you get back 10 x more.
Readings between 0 - 15% are not a cause for concern.
Readings between 15 - 20% may require further
investigation when compared with the average of all
readings taken. Consideration should be given to
re-checking the area in three months.
Readings greater than 20% will identify areas needing
remedial work. There may be early signs of water
ingress or evidence of moisture. Again, consideration
should be given to re-checking the area in three months.
When readings go above 30% structural damage may
be occurring and deterioration is inevitable.

As others have said - some water content on the wood in your van is most definitely normal.
Your friend is kidding themselves if they think their readings on their van are 0% whatever the van is!!
Wood reaches a moisture content compatible with its surroundings. In a(usually) unheated sealed environment like a caravan that may well be in the 9-13% sort of area which is why under 15% is no cause for concern
