Hi all.
Our fridge has packed up on us on all 3 settings. I've been told it has a blockage and I need a new won . Before I splash out over £600 I would like to try the old trick of taking the fridge out and turning it upside down to free the crystals . My question is has anyone done this trick and if so how long did it last for.
The caravan had been stood for over a year and the fridge is a thetford n80.
Hope some of you gurus can help
Steve

Inverting fridge as described can help to mix coolant but usually only works if fridge does still get cold but not as cold as it should, however, worth a try as fridge will have to come out anyway. If it has failed completely on all modes & inverting don't work then its probable that coolant has leaked out so new fridge required.

See if the rear gets hot when on mains (It should, as it uses a heater element) if not see if mains voltage is getting to the heater ! this is usually fed from the thermostat.

Hi Thanks for that. I have had a caravan engineer out and he said he had heard of this upside down trick but it wouldn't work . He tried the gas was getting hot, ok ,and the electric was also ok its just the fridge ammonia has a blockage. I have managed to get the fridge out and it is now upside down for a few hours then I will check how it goes on electric as he will do the gas coupling on our service.

I got that trick to work on a domestic fridge. Never needed to try on the 'van.
