Greetings,
From having spent the last thirteen years 'down there' I can say that it has started to rain the nearest weekend to the 20th July (when the snappers break up) for three of the last four years.
I would avoid the two weeks after that like the plague, but the queues on the M5 coming out of Gordano tell me that it doesn't happen.
------------- How come when some people visit the fountain of knowledge, they only gargle!!!

Jago, I thought we were the only ones who made the bad choices. We chose France instead of Cornwall this year, and the weather was mainly wet. We arrived at Lac d'Orient to the pleasure of an 'orange alert'!!!
Happy days!
Bertie.

Yes we too have enjoyed France in the rain. We found if you can make your stay long enough and travel around a bit - like top to bottom - you eventually find some sun and see a lot of beautiful France.
Will have to report back on weather in Cornwall.
Well, out of just over 6 weeks, we had about one week of fine days, and about half of that was with sunshine. We did not move around much, because others returning from various areas were reporting much the same situation.
Plus, the van got bogged down and it took me all of one day to finally get it decently positioned, so we stayed put at Lac d'Orient for four weeks.
Several caravanners/motorhomers said they thought the French campsite owners/managers have become a bit lax outside their July/August peak period, and recommended Germany and Austria as better value. I did feel that some of the criticism was justified.
Bertie.

We go the end of the month. Have been going down there since 1965. Whatever the weather you can have a great time. But I must say when the sun shines, there is no greater beach than Crantock. We have given up what the weather forecasters say now. We just take each day as it comes and make the best of it whatever the weather is doing.

We have given Cornwall a miss this year as August was so poor there last year, and the year before. You can cope with a bit of rain on holiday, you just role with the punches, but the persistent daily drenching does get boring in the end. So this year we have put our holiday eggs in a French basket. Only Benodet in Brittany but keeping everything crossed. Like the OP we are sort of famous for it being bad weather whenever we go away so we'll see.

Yes we noticed that last year,French campsite owners do little to improve pitch conditions even 4* campsite pitches can be quite rough and ready.
What a terrible shame about your holiday,it is so expensive now to get your 'van and selves over there plus all the organising and travelling, hope you fare better with future trips.
At Lac d'Orient, they started bulding work quite close to where pitches were in use - and I,m talking large lorries, JCB, cement mixer. Into June, a great deal of hedge trimming and mowing commenced.
They also closed off the newer amenity block, and some visitors had a long walk to the showers, often in pouring rain.
For the future, we will probably revert to landing at Cherbourg, or even St Malo, and blow the extra cost.
Landing at Calais or Dunkerque makes getting down to central/southern France a long trip.
Bertie.
