....... Are the any good, you know the type that Aldi sell for about 70 quid orso. I struggle with freeview signal from the rooftop Ariel sometimes so I'm looking into satalite.
Any advise would be welcome, thanks Paul.
Mmmm interesting.... I don't do Europe yet i'm too new to caravaning. Been to 2 sites this year where tree's have got in the way of a decent tv signal so i thought that satalite might be a good option. Just wondered what the those boxed portable sets were like.
I have one and although I only use it occasionally, when
there's no digital reception, I've found it ok. First time it was a bit tricky to
locate the satellite but a friendly campsite neighbour helped out and from then on it
worked well.
I've got one of the Aldi kits, and subsequently got a larger dish, having read that the further north or south you go, you need a larger dish, and therefore assuming larger is better everywhere. However! - the furthest north being Tyneside and furthest south Cornwall with both dishes, although both worked equally well for signal quality and strength, for some unknown reason it was always much easier to find the signal with the smaller, Aldi dish!
Incidentally, we also found it easier to tune in with the Aldi receiver and then swap over to our Sky box (also brought from home for the hols...)

Michael - the link you suggest is a useful source of information as a starting point. Unfortunately it has not moved with progress in the field and is currently out of date concerning recent developments in satellite location technology.
It is however good background information and a useful resource for those starting out to get a feel for satellite TV technology.
Such links are a starting point and should not be regarded as an 'oracle' as there seems to have been little change in the info on the site in a considerable length of time and in that time there have been numerous significant developments.
quite, like everything else it moves on and new ideas are bound.have just set up a new system with a sky dish a quad connections.signal strength and quality i am getting is 75 %,which is really good as the norm has been 50%.before i toy with the dish again is it possibly to get 100% on both? i am useing freesat equipment tv ect.

Unless you have a massive 'van there aren't 4 locations to put it in.

Thanks for all the replies and info guys, really helpful. I've decided to start cheap and work my way up if it all goes well. So ill start searching for a boxed camping satellite set up and see how I get on.
