Anyone got a new Elddis with the Avtex high gain aerial
Do they work as good as the status directional
or are they better
Its puzzling why elddis chose them hope its because they are better
No, they are absolutely dire! An attempt by Elddis to save a few quid and it seems to have backfired spectacularly. Lots about this on the other forum. One or two people seem satisfied but the majority of folks who have these are complaining of little or no reception in areas where they could get a good reception using the Status aerial in the past. If I knew that they were going to be this bad it would certainly have put me off buying the Elddis. sadly too late now. We have to lug around the satellite kit wherever we go.
Absolute tat and best avoided.

I was about to ask the same question as we are due to pick up our new Avante next week. most of the sites we use have cable TV points from the bollard where the EHU connects, but I forgot to ask if there is a connection point for these on the exterior of the caravan?
Just hope i dont have to run the co-ax cable through the window on a brand new caravan until i can have an external point installed.

Our Affinity came with an external sat connection in the battery locker. It works fine!
Our 2012 Swift came with a satellite connection in the battery box. Strange, though, that internal connection gave both terrestrial and satellite sockets on the small surface between the settee and dinette, but only a terrestrial socket at the front chest of drawers, which we find the most convenient position for TV and satellite receiver.
My next job is to rearrange this so that both sockets are at the front chest.

Read on another forum that you need to use the Avtex TV as this acts as an amplifier
So thats maybe why Elddis provide one with a new van
Seems that some are finding them working ok
We used both the Avtex TV with the amplifier turned on and the Samsung that we replaced it with and there was no difference. Elddis cannot fit an aerial to a caravan with the proviso that you only use the supplied TV. That would allow for no flexibility or freedom of choice and they would be on a very sticky wicket!
In all that dialogue that I have been involved in, Elddis have made no mention of the necessity to use the Axtex TV.

I'm sorry to say it certainly does not work with the avtex tv. I was told after a trip at Easter that it was my Avtex tv and not the aerial, being the reason for getting no tv signal. Good on Avtex ,they collected my tv and issued me with a new one after a few days. I have been on two different sites since then,at opposite ends of the country and still no signal. I totally agree with Alistair ,it is definitely a cost exercise on elddis part.
They keep saying it works ok in Australia and New Zealand ,and this was the reason for picking that type of aerial. My personal opinion is that it is just a upgraded car aerial. It works perfect with the radio , but tv sorry not fit for the purpose.
Hi Rab,that's exactly what I use now. Apart from the aerial and the heating issue, we have found are new Avante to be brilliant ( just put a spell on that one lol). It's just a bit annoying when you have spent nearly £17000 and have to put up with something that you know Elddis could of done better by staying with the status directional aerial. How does the saying go. " if it's not broke ,don't fix it " . Good luck with your new van,you won't be dissapointed. Cheers Scoobz.
Well I actually rang my dealers today to finalise the pick up details and enquire about the best way to have a external co-ax cable point fitted for when we are on sites with notoriously poor reception like some we regularly visit around Snowdonia. These sites provide a cable TV point via the EHU bollard. With that sorted, the conversation turned to that of the reports i had heard regarding the poor reception found when using the Avtex ariel. According to my dealer, this ariel works by utilizing the whole of the caravan roof as an ariel, and are very good, and anyone whos getting regular poor reception should maybe have their instilation checked out incase there is a fault somewhere in the wiring.
Just 7 days to go now before we pick our new van up, I just hope its as good as it says it is on the tin lol!

out of 2 trips we have picked up all major channels without any other boost, however as my other half is a great fan of Create and Craft channel 36 we have to try and get that as well - 50% success so far. I have a sat system but have no joy with that
Not a problem getting some very obscure channels. The shopping channels always seem to make an appearance of some sort, as does Gay Rabbit, the appeal of which completely passes me by. However if you want something as basic as BBC1, I have yet to visit a site where I can receive it, and these are sites that I have happily watched all mainstream channels on freeview with the Status 530 over recent years. If all of the complaints that I have seen are as a result of bad wiring, then it beggars belief. Elddis fight all warranty requests for things that ARE their fault. Imagine trying to get something sorted where they consider there is no problem. On a hiding to nothing I am afraid! I really wish that I had followed my head and gone with the Adria :((
