last night watching caravan programme recorded earlier in week where Graham (sorry cant remenber his surname) was doing a safety check advise
the guy in question stated that caravan tyres should be changed every 3 years . I was told 7 years
what do other think?
Replaced tyres on our van at just over 3 years old as the side walls had cracked. Condition is probably more critical than age, but the generally accepted maximum I've been told is the 5 years as mentioned.
The manufacturers originally said 7yrs, the caravan clubs reduced that to 5yrs, 'to be on the safe side'! pretty soon owners got safer still and down it went to 3yrs!
The manufactures have now withdrawn their 7yr advice, preferring careful inspection OFF the van, every year
I noticed our new van tyres are dated 4711. That will make them nearly 2 yrs old. It's a brand new van. Is this normal to have such old tyres on it? just a bit concerned may need replacing them much soon than expected.
As has been said, it's the condition of the tyres that matters most.
Look after them such as checking pressures before every journey, avoing contact with kerbs, covering them to protect from sunlight and rotating when parked up and you'll get a longer service from them.
Two year old tyres on a brand new van is quite common, a friend of mine put his van in for it`s third service [2 years 11 months old] had it from new, to be advised it needed two new tyres as they were 5 years old.
