I have just renewed my Caravan insurance with Safeguard, 4th year now, had one claim last year when when our rooflight blow off and they were very helpful and paid immediately.
The main reason for this message is that they also do a caravan breakdown cover at reduced rates. The great thing is the breakdown cover also includes the car when not towing and also has 90 day European cover. To give you an idea of cost, I have insured my 2013 Lunar at 17k new for old for £312 and the breakdown was an extra £44, totaling £356. They don't do the breakdown without the insurance. The breakdown has homestart, relay etc and in the uk is with the AA.
I think you will find though that the breakdown cover only applies if the caravan is in tow at the time of the breakdown or if the vehicle is adjacent to your unit on site but doesn't cover any recovery of both the car and caravan if you go out for the day when the car is detached from the caravan. May be an attractive deal but worth checking out.

This was the first thing I checked and can assure you that the breakdown policy does cover my car when not towing and even when caravan is not present.
emollie, what was meant was, will they recover & repatriate the caravan from site if the car is made unusable when you are NOT towing the caravan,Ie when sight seeing. in this instances many recovery insures will not recover the caravan.
many will not bring the car OR the caravan home if the recovery cost is more than the market value of the car either

Yep, know someone who has fallen foul of this recently, recovery to the UK, or repair abroad is allegedly higher than the cost of the vehicle, they are now trying to pay him for the vehicle.
They also go little no no assistant on getting back to the UK either, they had to pay and then recover the cost form the insurance company, thats fine, but they were toward the end of their hols just about spent up, and suddenly had to find money for the 5 of them to get home.
Just a little scenario I suffered a couple of years back coming home from Spain . Car engine started vibrating badly, car was recovered to a Citroen main dealer, van was taken to a campsite. after 5 days main dealer quotes 7800E for a new engine, car value £1300 so Britannia would not repatriate car or caravan as the car was an uneconomic repair.Fortunatly I also had cover with CC Red pennant. They brought home the car & the caravan to UK the cost of repair to the car was £1100 including a new clutch which was replaced only because it was opportune as the engine was out of the car.
what I am trying to point out is excessive repair quotes could cost you very dear if you breakdown abroad,& from what I have heard on other forums this practise is not uncommon after all you are not likely to go back & complain if you car packs up again in the UK due to a bodge job
