My Orion has a Status 560 aerial and amplifier. The TV works well but on Sunday I tuned the radio in to 198 LW to catch upon the test match and nowt but a hiss. The radio is connected to the radio socket in the status amplifier, the amplifier was turned on and the LED was lit.
Ideas please
I don't think you need the amplifier switched on if you are just using the radio. We don't anyway only for the TV reception. It's probably the power pack (amplifier) that's interfering with the radio signal.

agree with simonnev there is no ferrite rod antenna in the status or in the radio in the van usually so the status will only work on FM & perhaps digital.
Radio 4LW is broadcast on freeview (digital tv) have you tried that?
Daft question perhaps, but can you receive other stations on the radio on other bands?
LW is a fairly efficient band for broadcast radio in the UK and you would normally receive R4 LW off a piece of damp string, so I have to say the radio aerials should work despite them being optimised for the FM bands.
It's possible too that the LW band section of your radio has failed, which isn't un-common.
