We are going to a local site to test the caravan tomorrow. I am so excited but also super nervous as we had to put it in storage almost immediately after buying it so other than cleaning it we haven't had a chance to test anything out but the lights! It's a good job we are used to tents when we find out the water pump doesn't work and the toilet doesn't flush :-D
have a lovely time. my hubby and i did the same thing and were literally sat in the van reading the instructions every step of the way. still learning things now nearly a year on and on our second van. but loving every minute of doing it together. kept our tent (just in case) but cant ever imagine when we would want to use it now.
just make sure the wine is chilled on arrival!

We had our first ever outing May this year after moving from tents. It was difficult at first concentrating on the driving especially with my daughter chattering away..lol. Don't worry though once there it was brilliant and even if you can't set anything up (which won't happen) there's all the facilities and amenities you need on site or nearby. Best tip I've read on here was pen and pad to write stuff down that you've forgotten or would find handy.
Have fun, Ian.
------------- I went to the top of the mountain...and looked over the other side!
Definitely take pen and paper. You can jot down things you need, need to sort and things to buy. We keep a little notepad in the van to write down foodstuffs ie sauce, gravy etc we are running low on so we remember to top up before the next trip. Good luck and enjoy !!
Enjoy your trip. It will be fine. If you really have a problem just ask and someone will help you. My Hubby went away in the van on his own this May and as I usually set up the loo and gave him instructions he had problems. He asked a neighbour and got it sorted. Most people are happy to help. Have a great time and try not to stress too much.
