Tips required please.

Just had the most wonderful fortnight camping in sunny Scotland. Scenery, walking, relaxation - and thanks to Smidge not a midgie bite in sight! But, i've not had a full night's sleep despite 5 hour walks daily! The bed is the worst caravan bed I've ever slept in. We have a nearly 20 year old Swift which is everything we want for layout etc but the bed.........

How can I make it comfier? Is a memoryfoam topper the only option? Thanks in advance.

I got two single egg box type mattress toppers, they are cooler to sleep on. During the day, I sit on them, with a throw over the top, which saves having to roll them and put them away.

Some people buy the Raskelf Duvalays, they are quite expensive but you can make something similar yourself. Hard to store, so same as above if you don't want to grapple with putting them away every day.

A third option, just to buy a single duvet and sleep on that.

My beds are really hard as well.

Memory foam is another option. If you sleep in a double buy two singles or cut a double in half so that you can store easier.

self inflating mattress ,the thicker the better ,you can either go for a double or two singles depending how you sleep .its really all to do with your weight the more you weigh the better support you will need

Ahh, a sim could do it. Food for thought.

On another note - for those of you who make your lounge seats into your bed (what we have) is there a trick or configuration that makes it better? I.e the side you sit on on top or do you turn it all upside down?

We have a 24 year old Swift and we bought two 3" single memory toppers with zip off covers we put stretch sheets on them and roll them up and they fit in the seat boxes.

We have been using the seat cushions upside down for the past 2 years in our avondale dart and we have found it hard to get a good nights sleep too. I've recently decided to read the instruction booklet from front to back and it does state that we are supposed to use the seating cushions the right way up as it could damage the springs inside them. I'll give it a try next week when we go on our next trip

Hmmm.. now where did I put my keys?

We have bought some mattress toppers for ours. Custom made to fit. Found them on EBay selling them for camper vans. We went for a 2.5" thick. Our front seat area is 2.17M * 1.35M, so have 2, 2.17 * 0.675.

Here's an ebay link for them for more info - link to ebay listing . We rang them and ordered that way:Telephone - 01246 825873 (Mon-Fri 9-5 / Sat 9-12) just ask for Nick.

Just get the measurements you want and give Nick a ring. We have the black/dark grey cover. Seem very good, and very comfy.

Thanks all. Looks like we've been using the seats wrong way up - will change it and see if it makes a difference. Will check out the mattress toppers.
