Its 4 am and I'm ready to go but the wife and kids are still in bed. Today is a good day as we are going away for the first time as a family of four( wife, 20 month old and 9 week old)

OH and my self spent every weekend away and all school holidays away in the van for several years, then had our first who didn't sleep until she was one and a quarter so the van never got used, we now have a 9 week old who sleeps like a dream.

We have a swift oakmere fixed bed side bathroom so we shall see how it goes. Will be putting our full size awning up. Think we have everything, car, van and roof box loaded( weights and distribution checked)

Anyone have any little tips or points of note that worked for them in taking kids..

We love taking our kids away 5 & 2. The best thing is just to enjoy watching them explore in a safe environment. Your kids may be a little young yet but we have signed up to the National Trust 50 things to do before your 12 3/4. We keep a list in our van and do a task on each trip. Enjoy!!

20 month and 9 week old, doubt if they will notice the change. Beware of the sun as you will be spending more time outside and sunburn on little ones is not good.

Our little boy was 3 months old when we first took him away, we had a VW campervan at the time but still managed to go to Cornwall, New Forest, Norfolk, Herefordshire, a few festivals & a trip to Brittany & Vendee. Was always hard work but worth it.
We have a caravan now, obviously, which he loves & the next trip is next month when we head down to the French Alps with it.
He's 3 tomorrow & still doesn't sleep all night!!!

Hope you have a great time. Nothing better for kids in my opinion than a camping or caravan holiday.

Eldest grandson (now 7) was terrified of showers.

We have always used a plastic trug for taking washing up to the communal washing up facility.

6 inches of warm water in the trug. Perfect bath! Sat it in the shower tray.
As he got older we just bought a bigger trug!

About a year ago he conquered his fear of showers so I have great range of stackable trugs to do all sorts of jobs with.
