Hi
Does anyone carry their caravan spare wheel under their fixed bed.
Our spare is located in a wrack under the van. I didn't fancy lying under the van on the motorway trying to get the wheel out if I ever got a puncture. I've put it under the fixed bed. up at the front, as close to the axle as possible.
I was wondering if I could balance the weight of the wheel by adding weight to the front.
I'm another, like Redwatch, who has ditched the carrier under the 'van and puts the spare wheel under the bed.
Like him it's in approx. the same place (front to back) as the carrier, it saves umpteen Kgs from the MIRO weight and most importantly, in the event of a puncture (especially abroad) it will save me struggling in the road to remove the wheel.
------------- How come when some people visit the fountain of knowledge, they only gargle!!!
I have done the same. I could not get my spare out to check it. Stupid, difficult slide out frame which only came part way out. I would have spent ages under the caravan to try use it? I took the holder off saving some weight. Wheel is in island bed above the place it was under the van. Easy to get at to use or check pressure.
Fred.
I did it because I have seen a few people recently trying to change a wheel by the side of a slip road, motorway, b road and they all seemed to be struggling.
it also looks dangerous.
the longer you are static the more chance you have of getting shunted.
Mine was on a rack under the van when I bought it, but they had to remove it to put the AWD motor movers on. I keep it under the fixed bed now flat down towards the centre near the axle. It never moves and if I needed it would be clean and easy to get too.
